had a 'mates' kids today, 3 of them age 4,6 and 9. she had to work and her childminder called to say she was ill.and cant have them the rest of this week. i said i could have them for the rest of the week but only until 3.15 at the latest today. as my 5 yr old had an appointment with the hospital at 4.10 and i need to get me and the 3 kid to the hospital. all fine she says, she will be here before 3.15.
3.15 comes and goes, as does 3.20. at 3.25 i get a text off of her, she cant leave work as she has had to fit in another meeting.
i call and according to her receptionist she is unavailable to take calls.
her mobile is off and i dont have her busbands number.
so i have to take my 3 plus her 3 to a bloody hospital appointment.
her 3 behaved terribly and the poor consultant was a little bit more than shocked looking.
i got home at gone 5.30 to find her on my door step. she then moaned that my phone had been off,( turned off in the hospital, forgot to turn it on with 6 kids to walk home) and she had been at mine since 5.
i was fuming.
she then had the cheek to ask if tomorrow when i look after hers can i make sure they can go to their swimming lesson??? HELL NO.
now i am fuming,( been stewing over this all evening)
would i be totally unreasonable to tell her im not having them the rest of the week?? cause i have a horrible feeling that after today it is just gonna get worse!

YANBU - but tell her sooner rather than later.

I'd be really pissed off with her too.

curiouscat Tue 26-Jul-11 21:01:02

YANBU what a horrible thing to happen to you. Don't ever have them again. I'm sick of the way so-called working mums take the piss like this. Don't let her get away with it. She would never do the same for yours, or would she?

shortround Tue 26-Jul-11 21:04:09

because you cant be as thoughtless as she is, I guess you should have them tomorrow, but stuff the swimming lesson! but tell her tomorrow morning you cant do Friday.

TheOldestCat Tue 26-Jul-11 21:04:45

OP - she's been completely unreasonable. And you'd be completely reasonable to tell her that you can't have them for the rest of the week.

Hope this helps as it's from a so-called working mum (who would never take the piss).

Xales Tue 26-Jul-11 21:05:29

I wouldn't have them again!

She was completely disrespectful. Your child had a hospital appointment. You made it clear when it was and what time you needed her to collect her children in order for you to go. After the time for her to collect them she can't even be bothered to call you (because she is a selfish coward and knows she is letting you down) she texts you! I think she had no intention to be back at the right time but didn't bother to tell you because she and her work are obviously more important that you and your time.

She then has the audacity to complain that your phone was off while dealing with 6 children and can you do even more for her tomorrow!!! What are you meant to do with yours during this lesson?

If you call her she will accuse you of being a bad friend and letting her down. You are not this is what she is and has done today.

ICantFindAFreeNickName Tue 26-Jul-11 21:05:48

YANBU - Tell her you can't have them. You were doing her a huge favour & she let you down. i would be bloody fuming. She got to your house at 5 when you saud she had to be there at 3:15!!!

TheMagnificentBathykolpian Tue 26-Jul-11 21:06:08

Oh yes, if you have them the rest of the week, she will take the piss, I bet you.

"Since you did not stick to our agreement, you will have to find alternative childcare for the rest of the week."

clueless1 Tue 26-Jul-11 21:07:02

what do you mean so called working mums?
she was at work and is a mum. there is no so called about it. if she had been out having fun i think i would have hunted her down to give the kids back.
and i really dont know if she would do the same for me, i havent had to ask.

dollius Tue 26-Jul-11 21:07:05

What the hell is a "so called" working mum, please?

Hassled Tue 26-Jul-11 21:07:34

Ring her tonight and lie - tell her one of your DCs has had a nasty bout of D&V and you can't possibly have her kids tomorrow. Or you have a nasty bout of D&V. Assuming you don't want to fall out with her permanently - if you're past caring, just tell her the truth, which is that you can't handle so many kids, especially as hers don't behave and she's unreliable re pick up.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian Tue 26-Jul-11 21:07:59

probably that ALL mums are working mums!

clueless1 Tue 26-Jul-11 21:08:27

off to call her, sod it. i dont care if she has a hissy fit. i hate people taking the piss.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian Tue 26-Jul-11 21:09:35

Good for you. She has really taken total advantage of what was a lovely thing you were willing to do for her.

Collision Tue 26-Jul-11 21:10:11

Tell her where to go!

NO WAY would I put up with this!

What an awful woman! You are doing her a favour and she wants you to take her kids to swimming lessons!

Am fuming on your behalf.

Is she paying you for having them or just a favour?

clueless1 Tue 26-Jul-11 21:11:35

it was a favour. i was hopeful to get a bottle of wine and some chocs out of it tho!!
her house phone is busy.
text time.

thefirstMrsDeVere Tue 26-Jul-11 21:12:17

No way would I have them the rest of the week.
It wont be the last time she asks if you do it this time.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian Tue 26-Jul-11 21:13:03

she probably just meant that ALL mums are working mums. I don't think she was being rude!

clueless1 Tue 26-Jul-11 21:13:26

just sent a text.
''sorry i cant have the kids tomorrow, there is no way i can sort the 3 of them out for swimming while looking after my 3. you need to find someone else.''

Lou222 Tue 26-Jul-11 21:14:50

Good for you for standing up to her and not letting her take the p* again.
What are you putting in the text ?

TheMagnificentBathykolpian Tue 26-Jul-11 21:14:50

You should have said that you were not happy about 315 turning into 5pm and felt she took the piss.

Lou222 Tue 26-Jul-11 21:15:32

x post
Good text !

Collision Tue 26-Jul-11 21:17:52

ooh good for you! love a gal with balls!

I hate threads where we all give advice and the OP ignores 425 posts but you havent! Well donegrin

IwishIwasmoreorganised Tue 26-Jul-11 21:18:53

Glad you've told her that you won't be having her kids again this week. If she gets back to you, do tell her that ultimately it was her not beign anywhere near on time to collect them that took the piss and is the reason you'll not be having them.

She needs to know how unacceptable and rude her behaviour was (I work part time btw).
