AIBU?

To think those who try to justify the Norwegian bomber are not even as bad as a racist just sick.

Turned on the radio today, and can't believe how people are trying to put this on the Muslims and justify the crazy bomber.

And even suggesting we should listen to what he has to say, I just wonder why these same people were calling for us to listen to Osama after 9/11

Because by the same logic he might have had a message (god help us)

And I wonder if any of these net mums just have the balls to say I am a racist and what, because I have more respect for that person than someone who uses immigration as a fig leaf for their racism.

Just before we start if any one uses the term English please be clear whom you are talking about

Any one who is born here

Or any one who is white

Also the term immigrant means someone who is in the country legally and can't claim any benefits and who has to work

Asylum seeker is different

Just want to be clear

Have you got a link to the thread this is about?

And please don't insinuate connections between the people you've described and mental illness, it perpetuates the myth that people who suffer from mental illness are more likely to commit crimes than those who don't.

Those who have extreme views aren't just explained away by saying they have mental health issues.

I'd listen to a different radio station. Your choice sounds shit! Any station that elicits opinions from the members of the public isn't worth listening to. (Even Radio 4 does it for half an hour per week. Imagine my distress!!!!Grin)

Lovey - don't worry - organisations like the EDL or BNP REGULARLY organise mass phone ins to programs like this, hence you hear a lot of shit.

Seriously. Try Radios 3 or 4. It's better for your blood pressure!!

I haven't heard anyone justifying or supporting the Norwegian bomber, although to be fair, if I did, I'd think they were a tit and switch of so I wouldn't have a clue what nonsense they were spouting anyway. It's what I do when I hear people justifying and supporting any terrorist attack.

Unfortunately, terrorists/religious fundamentalists will always have supporters/people who try to see it from their point of view.

There were people who called for us to understand Bin Laden's position after 9/11. And my husband and I heard plenty of people on TV after various terrorist attacks saying "whilst I cannot condone what was done, we must understand that...."

Some people are wrong. I agree, listen to different radio station. Just avoid Jeremy Vine. He's also really annoying.

And I agree with ThePosieParker.

The Posie Parker...What about British born and bred Muslims? What about Caucasian, English speaking, British born and bred Muslims-do they intimidate you? It isn't religion that causes a cultural barrier, it tends to be clashes of nationality..."no one wants to interact"...this statement isn't true, as I know for a fact you haven't tried to interact with EVERY person you feel doesn't belong/come from/originate from Britain.

Anyone who in any way tries to justify what happened is a fucking prick.

I haven't heard anyone justifying or supporting him either. I think you need to start listening to a different radio station.

I haven't heard or seen any commentary justifying his actions in any mainstream broadcast or publication (though sections of his own Internet justification have been quoted - briefly - in some condemnatory pieces).

Can you link a specific item or name and shame the channel?

(Is there a settled definition of English, BTW? If I moved to Wales, completely legally - and not covering much distance so to do - I wouldn't expect to be considered Welsh. My great-grandchildren might be, though. Did you mean British? In which case I agree completely that it refers to anyone holding the nationality, irrespective of how long for or place of current residence).

Anyone who is white is english? what - my italian husband certainly doesn't count himself as english. Goodness.

I haven't seen much about the bomber - but I get the gist. Norway has taken a big and broad step in making the trial private (and it's causing some issues there) - but the gesture in cutting off his publicity oxygen is a good one. But unsure if it will work.

Seems to me this 'man' has committed horrors against his own people with the idea of tainting islam. Noone should buy his ideology. He's taking faith in vain as an excuse for his own actions.

Posie - given your fears of religion I've very much expect you to be fighting against the rise of religious schools. I'm not particularly religious but I'm worried at the rise of religious schools - not only are they devisive but there are areas where children have no non-selective schools to go to. Thats crazy.

If you listen long enough you'll hear someone who thinks it was Martians put him up to it. Like reality TV shows they are selected for their extreme views because that is more 'entertaining'.

As for the separate issue of the dangers of allowing large scale Muslim influence in our countries I do disapprove of that, but then I'm also against allowing too much Christian influence. We don't need more people who make decisions based on invisible people telling them to do things.

maypole I completely 100% agree with you. Can you tell me which radio station it was?

Why are muslims getting the blame for immigration? Unfortunately, it isn't the fault of innocent Iraqi's or Libyans or Afghanistanis that their country is being bombed to smithereens by America and the UK - surely they deserve the chance to survive? Or is that not allowed for muslims? No one seems to care that Polish people are coming over in waves?

PosiParker What about the hundreds of MUSLIM children that are killed everyday in war torn countries, that have been war torn in the name of fighting terrorism?
and produces such an abundance of anti Western feeling and extremists - CAn you tell me WHERE this abundance is? Because I'm muslim, and I don't know anyone in my very LARGE circle of muslim friends and family who holds extremist views.
Keep sucking up all that propaganda, because you are the exact type of drone that these people need.

mrbloom - i don't think it is about extremists re the muslim vibe, it is more about such a large group of people from a very different culture who live separate lives side by side/do not mix, this is the issue. i don't think of muslims being extremists, i think it is ridiculous that some people think that, but i do not like the living so separately, very closed off community. do you have close friendships with white english people? do any of your family, edlers? i am curious
