Someone explain those Dettol hands-free things to me.

OK. You need to wash your dirty hands, so you use those same filthy hands to turn the taps on, squirt a bit of soap on your hands, wash them and then use your nice clean hands to turn off the very same tap your manky digits have just turned on. How the fuck does having a hands-free soap dispenser make your hands cleaner? I just don't get it.

Not only that but if their product was that good, touching the 'germ ridden' pump at the top of the old dispensers wouldn't be a problem would it...I mean you're going to wash the germs off aren't you? Lol

Just more crap aimed at the already hysterical anti germ brigade who end up fucking their kids immune systems up.

CheshireDing Fri 22-Jul-11 19:26:46

You want to try going on a cruise, now they ARE hysterically obsessed about hand washing.

It drove me insane and irritated the hell out of me!

alowVera Fri 22-Jul-11 19:27:20

Yabu they are extremely hygienic, yeah, just like the ones in motorway services, where you have hands free flush, hands free soap, hands free water, and doors you have to touch
I hate the advert, and really don't get the point. So YANBU!!!!!!!

giyadas Fri 22-Jul-11 19:30:15

The only benefit I could possibly think of is if you have LO's who are reluctant to wash their hands. They might think it's quite cool so wash without so much fuss.
But that's really stretching my imagination.

ElectricSoftParade Fri 22-Jul-11 19:30:31

Drives me mad! I cannot abide those stupid flaming adverts and refuse to buy it. Although I do have one now. DH saw how riled I was and brought one home as a "special present". Twat. grin

SarahStratton Fri 22-Jul-11 19:32:50

I am a past master at using public loos without actually touching anything with my hands blush

I still think the hands free soap things are a load of bollocks though.

tiredgranny Fri 22-Jul-11 19:33:14

cheshire agree with u they even leave main doors open to wash rooms so u do not pick up germs lol and self service bit everytime u went for food put hand gel on

alowVera Fri 22-Jul-11 19:34:08

If you're not using your hands what are you touching then with coz wouldn't the terns be there and not you hands?

Awomancalledhorse Fri 22-Jul-11 19:35:20

Phew! I thought I was going mad/more stupider as I felt like the only person who didn't get it.

FabbyChic Fri 22-Jul-11 19:36:11

Pointless as you have to dry your hands on something, and what you dry your hands on will not be germ free even if just washed.

FabbyChic Fri 22-Jul-11 19:36:28

If it was self drying cleaner it would work.

mousesma Fri 22-Jul-11 19:39:30

I think this has been done before and the consensus was that its good for people who only have use of one hand but madness for anyone ese to buy.

KittyBump Fri 22-Jul-11 19:40:01

Yadnbu but I do have one! In a confused post partum fog I bought one thinking it dispensed hand sanitiser rather than soap. I thought that it would be pretty useful to have next to the changing mat, turns out it wasn't so useful having a splurge of liquid soap in my hand and a squirmy baby to pick up smile

tak1ngchances Fri 22-Jul-11 19:41:30

I would love the Radox brand manager to come on and explain what it's all about. I would equally love to know how much of the stuff they are shifting...seems to me too niche a proposition for the mass marketing campaign being thrown at it. I am sure they've done their research though! Maybe there are just a whole load more of germ obsessed people out there than I imagine.

tak1ngchances Fri 22-Jul-11 19:42:35

Meant Dettol not Radox. Apologies Radox brand managers... grin

MrsChemist Fri 22-Jul-11 19:45:43

My Nana has horrific arthritis in her hands, it would be good for her, I suppose.

They advertise it as less germy though, not easy to use.

alowVera Fri 22-Jul-11 19:49:29

kittybump can just imagine it. Lmao

WhoseGotMyEyebrows Fri 22-Jul-11 19:52:01

Wahoo! I've been ranting about this for months and everyone just looks at me blankly! They don't get it!

TheDeathlyMarshmallows Fri 22-Jul-11 20:14:23

Oh please, please, please MNHQ can we have Dettol on to explain the point of these things??

It would be an instant Classic thread as MNers ripped their very expensive marketing campaign apart grin

Timeforabiscuit Fri 22-Jul-11 20:17:34

Look closely at the add and the mum is handling raw chicken ON THE SAME BLOODY BOARD AS THE RAW VEG but it's ok our hands are non germy angry

Bogeyface Fri 22-Jul-11 20:18:59

It is so obviously stupid that even my 9 year old pointed it out after seeing the ad! She said that as you would be washing your hands afterwards surley it didnt matter!

SarahStratton Fri 22-Jul-11 21:06:04

A combination of elbows and big wads of tissue is my method of not touching anything in public loos. I'd love to see Dettol on here to explain grin

AandK Fri 22-Jul-11 21:15:57
