We live in a block of apartments. There is a lift and this evening my kids and I were waiting for it. This man, who i'd think to be in his thirties, is a rough looking dawg lives on the ground floor. His door is facing the lift. So, whie we were waiting forever for the ift to come down, this ruffian came out of his door with his big massive akita dog. We were stood about two feet away from his front door. When he came out I smiled at him, as mostly, folk are friendly round here, but he didn't smile back, then as he was locking his door, he muttered 'who the fuck are you standing outside my front door. Stupid bitch'. and he walked off. I was very tempted to shout something rude back, but with little ears listening, I stopped myself. I cried when I got in Blush Been a long day and this was just the icing on the cake!

Waddock hunt. I would've been hard pressed not to say anything, but with kids present, and a massive dog, would probably have bitten my tongue too! i try to tell myself that people like this are probably massively unhappy, and we should feel sorry for them. i would avoid him at all costs.

This type of this is massively hurtful But I agree with Iwant. He is probably one of life's very very sad people and to be pitied. Sad that he is so damaged that a smile will provoke aggression in him

Any chance he's a bit forgetful and was talking to his dog?

In any event, you definitely mustn't give into temptation - think DNA testing!

Sneakily follow the asshole with a shovel and plastic bags and collect some of his dog's shit to put through his letterbox.

If it transpires that he is a responsible dog owner dog', any dog's excrement will do Grin.

There's a surplus dog in there after 'owner' and I haven't even had a sniff of Wine yet.

Yeah, zoo, because the dog's got to be a child-killer, hasn't he? Especially an Akita. Hmm

Talk about prejudice and irrelevance! Had the OP said the guy was a black man or that he came out the door not with an Akita but with a Pakistani friend all MN would be up in arms asking the what the relevance was.

Oscar, it's not a nice experience but sadly par for the course these days. I'm more concerned that you cried over something so trivial, what's the problem behind it all? (Rhetorical question, obviously, I don't expct you to answer me, but perhaps analyse it privately for your benefit).

Do you seriously think the police would waste scarce resources DNA testing shit?

What a shame, you were trying to be nice and didn't deserve that and you couldn't tell the guy exactly what you thought of him with your DC there (as I'm assuming it would have contained a lot of profanities Grin), and as zoo said his dog was also there so if you argued back and it escalated into a shouting match the dog might have been distressed too. I would have had a bit of a blubber when I got home too tbh, I really like the post shit through the letterbox idea though, go for it and report back here Wink

When you've had a shit day a shitty comment from an arsehole can be the last straw. Agree he should be pitied.

dogs - think you are over thinking zoo's dog comment Hmm

Dogs the OP didn't mention the akita in a negative way, just said it was an akita.

OP, he sounds a horrible person and you sound like a lovely person. Be grateful that you would never speak to someone like that and that you're such a nice person that verbal aggression upsets you. You'd have far more to worry about if you'd just been able to shrug it off.

Ha-reminds me of the time my son (23 and well brought up, no hoody) noticed a woman struggling to get down the stairs at the station with a massive case. He went across and asked "Do you need a hand with that?"
"Do I fucking look like a hand?", came the reply, "fuck off, tosser!"
I kid you not!

Report
prudaloo · 22/07/2011 21:39

Ah, you have just met your neighbourhood sociopath. Best thing to do is be cheeky and unafraid back in your verbal response and walk off asap.

TartyDoris · 22/07/2011 21:43

He's probably a hermit. You should pity him.

Report
Gingefringe · 22/07/2011 21:45

Should he have a dog like that in a flat? If it's council owned he probably shouldnt

Report
Ripeberry · 22/07/2011 21:50

Maybe he thought you were laughing at him. Some people just can't recognise a smile as no-one ever smiles at them, just laughs and this got him riled?

Report
lavenderbongo · 22/07/2011 21:52

I agree with those that say you should pity him. Why not pick him a bunch of flowers and leave them outside his door with a nice note. "You seemed so grumpy earlier I thought these might cheer you up. Hugs and Kisses. A kind stranger XXX"
That'll confuse him!

Hey dogsbestfriend, I love a hound as much as anyone. But the fact of the matter is they're an agressive, possessive breed, the more so if they're not treated correctly or trained for further aggression. He probably keeps it to intimidate people.

Furthermore, I think you need to examine your own cold lack of empathy, it's not unreasonable to be upset by an aggressive and intimidating encounter, especially after a shit day.

OP - it was obviously the straw that broke the camel's back. The guy obviously has issues I'd feel sorry for him if I were you. And avoid him like hell....

Is your question rhetorical or addressed to moi, AnyFuleKno?

I would have thought that any fool would know that the reference to DNA testing was a joke and that my earlier response was very definitely tongue in cheek.
