AIBU?

to think that a music radio station should err... play music?

I have a 20 minute commute between my workplace and DS's nursery. On my way to pick him up yesterday I flicked my car radio between Radio 1 and the local radio station the whole way, hoping to hear some music. I heard the tail end of one song and that was it; the rest of the time was either the DJs bigging themselves up and name-dropping between inane laughter at unfunny jokes, adverts (local radio) or them talking about playing some music at soem point in the next 30 minutes. AIBU to:

  1. want to slap the person who texted the Moyle show the other day to 'stop playing so much music' round the face with a wet kipper; and

  2. think the DJs should actually, maybe, play some music? Please.

YANBU. Not that I listen to the radio much anymore, but if I wanted to listen to people talk I'd listen to Talk Radio!

If they'd been playing music, you'd almost certainly have been wishing for it to stop. My experience of radio 1 is that with each song I think it's reached rock bottom but the next one reaches new depths every time.

Put a CD on in the car if you want music.

NO! I love Chris Moyles and his show. They are so funny and there's no good music out at the moment anyway. If you'd listened from 9 today they play an hours worth of music called golden hour.

Damsel I haven't listened to music radio for at least a year but I want some new tracks to run to. Also, I am 23 and feel like a fuddy-duddy listening to Radio 4 and Classic FM :)

Get a digital radio and listen to 6 music.

I loathe chris moyles and his band of irritating twats, but not as much as I loathe ferne cotton. The bit where they hand over to her show and there's some dire banter between chris and ferne makes me want to throw stuff.

Absolute Radio. No repeat guarantee where they never play anything twice between 10am and 5pm, great music, hardly any talking, the odd advert, but well worth a listen

X-FM! London and surrounds only, I think, but you'll get Led Zep followed by Adele followed by Mumford & Sons, so brand new and modern and classic rock and pop all mixed up. And the DJs actually seem to like playing music.

One of the reasons I love my local radio station is they have great presenters and a good balance of talk and music. If I just wanted music I would listen to a cd

I could have written DamselInDisarray's post... theyr'e so tedious. Chris Moyles really does believe his own hype and Ferne Cotton's droning voice makes my teeth itch. I like Aled even though he seems to just be a foil for the oily Moyles.

I really ought to search for some better stations... Absolute Radio sounds good.

Chris Moyles and his merry band of idiots make my want to hit something. Get a digital radio or an ipod/iphone and listen to 6Music or your own music.

You have my sympathy.

Something terrible happened to my beloved Triple M while I was away.

Now all they talk about is football and football players and they play the same 10 songs over and over and over.

I love Barnsey as much as any other Aussie, but come on.

No chance of getting a digital radio in my car I'm afraid and I'm outside London so the choice is limited.

I do listen to my own music but it needs to be refreshed so I'm looking for new songs. Haven't heard any yet!

Oh, I love Chris Moyles! The music they play is generally shite though. 6Music is the best for actual music.

I used to love listening to Chris Moyles until my best mate admitted that he was related to him, and told me some home truths about him. Now when I listen to him all I can think is :(.

I've seen family photos of my mate and Chris before anyone says I'm a troll!

Chris Moyles is a moron. God how anyone can put up with that shit at 8 o clock in the morning is beyond me. The things he says are alike to conversations I had when I was 14 FFS.

I've given up listening to the radio for that very reason OP

radio 2 is good in the mornings (IMO). I do feel old listening to it, but better than making myself homicidal by listening to radio 1.

radio 3 and 4 are not suited so well to commuting, as they require more concentration, but I can listen to Chris Evans wittering away and not actually take in anything he says without losing track of what's going on. and they often play quite nice music too :)

I can't listen to classic fm anymore without feeling sick at the overwhelming smugness of it all. it's a shame, I used to love it.

Radio 2 is very good, and plays good music, unlike the cowdung on Radio 1. Evans is more entertaining than Moyles too.

Don't like Chris Moyles at all and Fearne Cotton is even worse! The only good thing about hearing her on the radio is that you can't see her (I think she looks like she needs a good wash) Grin

I believe you, AmyStake, you wouldn't joke about having somebody like Chris Moyles in your family, would you? Ugghh. In fact, he does look a bit like what I would picture a troll to look like... Blush

I travel a lot and would love to find a good radio station that plays a wide range of music, I love it all. I listen to Radio 1 mostly and find that's a good way of finding new songs that I like, I then download them to make compilation disks.

Is there any way of listening to the latest new stuff online, just clips would do, to know whether I like a song or not?

YABU for listening to Chris Moyles.

Agree with kveta, try Radio 2 if you can't get digital. Chris Evans is mostly ok.

Don't listen to a DJ called Chris. moyles and Tarrant are both excrutiating.

YANBU and while it is bad all the time it seems particularly bad in the mornings. Breakfast DJs seem to have egos the size of Western Europe and think we are hanging on their every word while they rattle on endlessly about their favourite topic - themselves

The worst offenders inho are Christian O'Connell on Absolute and Chris Moyles

I regularly flick thrugh the 6 pre-set stations I have in my car on the way to school and hear not one single song all the way on all six. Makes me fume it does.

So no, YANBU Angry

I like the music on radio 1 - I would like to hear it at some point. Hmm

I don't like 6Music's breakfast DJ Shaun Keaveney much. That's partly why I listen to Chris Moyles instead. Although I love it when Andrew Collins sits in for Keaveney and not just because I have an irrational crush on him Blush
