Poor bloke, maybe he didn't have £2 on him? Sad

To be honest, I'd rather see 'Karma' hit those who park dangerously outside schools.

Serves Mr Flashy Knob-Chops right LMFAO

I agree with Worra, I can think of much worse parking crimes.

Just because he has a nice car does not mean he is a horrible person.

I don't get the abuse in general towards people with nice cars

I can think of worse crimes than having a bit of money to spend

hehehe

that reminds me about a story in our local paper of a wannabe local councillor who called out the police for what he believed to be a dangerously parked vehicle. The policeman pointed out that the vehicle was legally parked, however the councillor wasn't (had parked opposite a junction) so he got a ticket. He ripped the ticket up and promptly got a fine for littering. He seemed to think he could park wherever he liked.

I don't suppose the fishermen who needed to use the slipway for boats gave a toss what make, colour or cost the car was - it was in the wrong place.

If ONLY the disabled bays in our local park were in a tidal area.....

Report
Sidge · 17/07/2011 22:21

Oh come on, apparently he parked on the slipway every day to avoid paying a couple of quid carpark charges!

worraliberty I agree there are worse car parking abuses, but surely this chap was somewhat arrogant to assume he could park where he fancied?

I referred to him as Mr Flashy Knob-Chops, because he obviously has the arrogance to think he can park where he likes. However, if I saw his car parked in a parking space, i'd just think wow lucky car to have such an amazing car. I hate upper middle class snobbery and arrogance with a passion.

TheArmadillo · 17/07/2011 22:26

What kind of car he had is pretty much irrelevant - I agree with that part.

However he blocked local fisherman from being able to take their boats out there presumably causing them more work despite there being a no parking sign AND it explaining why. And he did it daily.

If he couldn't find the £2 to park then he should have found somewhere else to park legally - probably would have been further away which I guess put him off.

Parking illegally wasn't his only option

worraliberty · 17/07/2011 22:28

Oh he is totally arrogant don't get me wrong

I just don't understand why the story goes on about the car being a flash one

Ignorant parking is ignorant parking...even if it's a moped lol

Report
Sidge · 17/07/2011 22:32

No you're right, his car is irrelevant really.

It shouldn't matter whether it's a flash Alfa Romeo or a bashed up Renault Clio.

I think it's maybe the presumption that if you can afford to buy a lovely car like that you should be able to afford a tenner a week to park it properly!

Yep, can't argue with that lol!

Got it in one Sidge, that is why the big deal is being made out of the make of car.

Report
Dawnybabe · 17/07/2011 23:42

As somebody points out in the article, it's a very old car with bodywork damage so it's not worth much at all, so it's a bit irrelevant. But it is very funny that the persistant charge dodger got caught out in grand style. I hope that karma extends to the people that continuously turn their cars around in our road. Every time I hear a car stop I think it's for me only to see their arses disappear off my driveway.

This is local to me and I know of the gent in question. And oh yes, it is truly karma - my DH whooped when he read this story in the local rag.

What intrigues me is this: This man parks here on virtually daily basis as he runs a business in the nearby Historic Dockyard. Like all locals, he knows that the tide comes in and out - and all about springs and neaps and how far the water will come up the slipway. He irritates the fishermen intensely by parking in the way of their loading/unloading activities.

Does anybody share my belief that it may just be possible that his car was 'assisted' from its original parking spot, to one slightly further down the (very slippery, seaweed-and-algae-covered) slipway, closer to the encroaching waters of Portsmouth Harbour? Or would that be a scurrilous lie?

toomuch - what were we thinking, tittering about such stuff at 0130?? It was well past my bedtime, now I'm propping eyelids up with matchsticks.

jasper - I'm not normally one that revels in the discomfort of others, but, believe me - this gentleman is a blackguard of such epic proportions, that I have spent a good while dredging my conscience for an iota of sympathy and have not yet found one drop. He absolutely did have it coming.

It may not be dangerous as such but it is selfish and inconsiderate.

for the sake of £2. Man is a twat regardless of the make of car.

TalcandTurnips I live across the water from there so it made me wonder too if someone had tried to make a point by giving his car a gentle shove!

jasper it's not really revelling in his misfortune - it's not like he was some poor bloke who had been injured or suffered harm or loss of a family member or something. I just think it served him right in that he was arrogant enough to assume the normal rules didn't apply to him.

I too am quite local, I read a few of the comments put in The News online, and it would seem that he is known on his street for his 'considerate' parking.
