I have a friend who is very keen to tell women that going back to work after having children is very important, that you shouldn't get misty eyed about spending time with your children etc etc.

She advocates c-sections and formula feeding (both of which I've done myself, so believe me, this is not a criticism of her choices).

She very much thinks it's important to be your own person after children and to make yourself happy and put yourself whenever you feel the need to.

So far, so whatever.

I don't know why, but I just find it weird that she is also a screeeeeeaming pram hun. Specifically, for any kind of Bugaboo. The BILE that spits forth from her mouth about using any old stroller rather than a decent, pricey pram just amuses me.

I don't know why I find it incongruous, but I do.

Me, I wouldn't bother even now - slings for me until they were about 8 months, then a cross-country pram for taking on archery shoots until they were 2, then no more prams, they walked. I hated the damn things, whatever the make.

I have a bog standard Hauck travel system..and a secret lust for the iCandy Strawberry that is coming out this year. I'll tell you what I have noticed, since DS was born I have become a pram spotter, often telling a very disinterested DF what makes I can see from cafe, bus etc windows and cooing over the iCandys and Oysters.

Am I weird for never having had the slightest interest in other people's prams when my DCs were little then? Granted they are now 8 and 10, so perhaps the government put something in the water in about 2005 to start all this off?

Perhaps it's because prams are not so much a parenting choice as a material thing that you buy, and they say quite a lot about who you are and the kind of stuff you like.

I can respect your friends point of view, but then again I can't imagine rushing gladly back to work and deciding 'not to get misty-eyed' about spending time with my baby (I am a sling-wearing hippy and didn't even buy a pram until DS was a year old so perhaps in my own way I am also snobby about prams )

I am about to buy my first pram and I am bloody baffled by the choice. I want forward facing that's all I know. The amount of choice makes me want to hide in a corner. if i manage to get one and then someone goes all at me for the one I get I am not sure I will cope :)

Oooh no, because don't you know, the only opportunity you will ever have to talk to your baby is when they're in the pram, and they must be rear facing for you to do that, mustn't they, because you would never ever talk to your baby the rest of the 24 hours that are in the day!

You can probaly cut down a lot by deciding on things like swivel wheels or not, how light/easy to fold/fit in boot.

all the nice prams i.e bugaboos and icandys are bought by chavs off their maternity grants around my way :( not that i like that style i like a good old fashioned silver cross pram - or - a travel system but not a massive graco mirage / tour nor one of those awful cheapys from argos either im a nightmare which is why my gorgeous OH is choosing our pram this time round!!!

I have a Silver Cross Linear Freeway, which I love and is excellent for big shopping trips because it can carry all the shopping, letting ds sleep while we're out, is nice and snug in winter and has fantastic control even in snow!

Unfortunately it's also HUGE, doesn't fit on buses or trains or in my house tbh. It's also like pushing a tank now that ds is bigger.

I also have a MacLaren Sport, from ebay for £35. Good for walking and easy to push but I don't like how ds sits in it - kind of slouched down the bottom the seat. It also looks a bit tatty, but I think that's just because of the colours.

And I have a Nuna Pepp, which I didn't buy but was given to me brand new, I hate the bottom of it because it can't go up or down steps, it feels like it's going to fall apart when you go over a bump on the pavement and the handle is a stupid uncomfortable shape unless you push it with 1 hand. On the up side, ds looks really comfy in it and it looks great. It's also easy to carry up and down stairs with the baby in the other arm!

I have yet to find my perfect pram :(
