AIBU?

Toto think DS should know the difference between a 'light' coloured wash and 'whites'

Ds (14) was moaning on last night that neither of his school shirts had been washed. It was 10.30pm
I told him to get a grip and he knows perfectly well where the washing machine is and he should have sorted it out at 5.00pm and there would still have been drying time on the line.

So he says 'fine, I'll get a wash on' So far so good

But we come to empty the machine this morning and I find he has put my white knickers in with the pale blue shirts!

HE BLOODY WELL KNOWS BETTER.

The Muppet!!

what?

you are moaning because he thought he'd wash your pants?

YABU and ungrateful!

He tried to help. Most men teenage boys would not think to help by putting on anything other then their own item they wanted washing.

You are being mean.

Funny. You're very lucky to have him!

Did the world implode?

I am not SERIOUSLY moaning!!

It's one of those things that you keep repeating and it never sinks in!!

Like when they get home from school and I say 'go and change your uniform' and the kids look at me like it's the first time I've ever said it even though we have been doing this since nursery and big son leaves school next year!

or when' I say your shoes don't live there' (middle of the hall just outside the living room door) they look at me in amazement and wonder where the shoe picker- upper is tonight!!

Do you really do a separate whites wash?

How retro.

This made me smile. Can I hazard a guess that reason that DS had no clean shirts was because they were festering in his room rather than in a laundary basket? Grin

I would put white pants in with pale blue shirts because we only ever use the low temp eco wash because we are smug sanctimonious bastards.

I just do two washes, 'light' and 'dark' Confused, seems to work ok. He probably was just trying to be helpful!

Maybe keep your own stuff separate and do it yourself, if you're particular about exactly how it's done?

Nearly weedle!!
One was over the bannister and it killed me to resist temptation to pick it up but as I keep saying to him I'm your mother not your skivvy!!

pootles no world imploading but my eyes did go upwards when he wasn't looking!!

Like I said not at biggie just a 'how many times do you have to be told the same thing!!' Grin

OP, why is that so wrong? Confused
The REASON for separate washes is so colours dont run - and pale blue shirts will NOT dye white knickers.

YA actually BU for washing undies with jeans - thats actually a lot more odd.

Must say I never really got this (am most un-domesticated person ever, I will warn you).

I seperate washes by care instructions - so wool wash, 30's wash, handwash, and a 40 wash.

So if i were to seperate by colour as well that'd be 10 washes at least! And for things like 30s wash, there'd be cycles with just one item in the wash.

How does that work? Or is this just a problem for me because there's only 3 of us and I hardly have any clothes?

Vmcd Why is that odd? Confused

DH's and the boys' dark undies and socks go on a hot wash with the jeans.

My white knicks and bra stay together on one wash

DH's and boys light coloured undies and socks would wash together.

What's wrong with undies and jeans?

If the shirts have been washed before, they are not going to run, so I honestly dont see what the problem is?

Report
Zanywany · 15/07/2011 11:52

Oooops, looks like I'm the only one who just puts everything together. Never had any problems with colours running though!

Report
upahill · 15/07/2011 11:53

Squeaky it's not really a problem.

The minor moan is along the lines of wondering how many times I or DH have to say something before it sinks in yet come to think of it the boys tell us something once in passing, usually when I'm at my most frazzled and hectic and I am expected to remember weeks later!

We do:

lights at 30 degrees, which would include light blues and whites

darks at 30 degrees / everything because-everything-in-here-is-too-well-washed-for-colours-to-run washes

and an occasional 60 degree "die, dustmites, DIE" wash

YANBU. By 14 teenagers (both boys and girls) should be able to remember simple stuff like different washes.

YA sort of NBU because a 14 year old should be able to do washing the way they have been taught.

But in reality there is nothing wrong with putting white underwear in with light blue shirts, so YABU for insisting on separating them out.

Pale blue shirts would go in with white knickers in this house.

Like most people (it would seem) we do a lights and a darks wash.

Well done on bringing up your dc to do housework though. I just wish everyone did.
