AIBU?

To own 30 pairs of shoes?

MidnightHag · 15/07/2011 10:54

DH thinks I am. Some are old vintage and the list includes flipflops/trainers etc. So am I a shoe-holic or average? It would be useful to know for future arguments discussions with DH.

Absolutely not. I have 50 pairs. They're not all posh or in the best shape and many cost less than a tenner (I love New Look!) but I love each and every one of them.
DH says he will divorce me if I buy any more shoes without throwing some away. I said the same about his frankly ridiculous jeans collection and the rest of his bloody hoarding We are at a stalemate!

You are being absolutely unreasonable. 30 pairs! What on earth do you do wear for the other 335 days of the year?

PuppyMonkey · 15/07/2011 11:02

Sounds very modest. I have twice as many I'm sure.

I have 4 pairs. Including wellies.
Just thought I'd balance the thread out a bit :o

If you are then so am I!

I'm just lucky enough not to have a DH to comment on it!

Do you know the irony? I spend all my day working with dogs and half my spare time helping rescue, either hands on or via t'internet.

I cannot, even with the greatest effort of imagination, justify the sandals, the high heels, the open toes, the couple of pairs of Jimmys, the beautiful L K Bennett low stilettoes I bought in a moment of sheer ecstasy last month despite having several other, similar pairs, the handbags which go with them, the flip-flops, the several pairs of boots....

I need a pair of walking boots, a pair of trainers and some slippers.

I hate trainers with a passion so that's them out. The slippers have been pilfered by DD and my walking boots need replacing but somehow I lack the interest in shopping for them.

So, if you're in a country village and you see a be-jeaned blonde walking or training the villagers' dogs, look at her feet.

If you spot a pair of 3 inch high pointy toed Jimmy Choos poking out from the hem of her jeans don't point and laugh, just say "Hi DogsBestfriend!"! :o

Tip to deal with DH from my late Nanny, who was a master at this although Grandad begrudged her nothing (think it was a throwback to Wartime!):

Buy shoes. Place in wardrobe for a week. Wear. DH will say, "I haven't seen those before darling, are they new?"

You reply, "Oh no honey, they've been in the bottom of the wardrobe for aaaaaages."

jennil you cant throw shoes away! its against the law- the law according to clarabumps that is!Grin

Thank you! MN, I was hoping for some support!
knittedbreast : I'm intrigued. What caused you to get rid of all your shoes? Big respect for managing on 2 pairs, BTW.

Clara That's what I keep telling DH! It's just wrong!
(But then what do you do with the 19 pairs of ballet pumps that really have seen better days, and when there are so many new beautiful cheap ones in New Look and Dorothy Perkins sales??!)

The thing with shoes is, you can get some amaaaaazing bargains in the sales. Also, within reason, no matter how much weight you put on, your feet stay the same size.. so shoes last a lot longer than clothes.

I am going to count.

I have about 250 Blush ranging from wellies to kitten heels, football boots to wedges, skate shoes to stillettoes, Doc Martins to platforms...

whispers: some still have their labels on.

I think I need help.

Shodan · 15/07/2011 11:16

Huh.

I have 30 too.

It doesn't seem quite enough, somehow.

DH can't talk, anyway- he has 6 pairs of absolutely identical black shoes for work. And he rotates them, to make sure they're wearing evenly. (freak) Not mention loads of pairs of golf shoes.

Shodan we may well be sharing the same husband. "he has 6 pairs of absolutely identical black shoes for work" and does he get them re-soled and have "blakeys" put on the heels to make them last even longer? Where's the fun in that?

I have no problem with people having numerous pairs of shoes - it's entirely up to you and we all have our vices.

I am fascinated, however, by where the hell you keep them all.

Do you all have walk-in wardrobes or closets or something?

I probably have about 10 pairs and they still seem to be everywhere.

I have at least 30 pairs of shoes, probably more. Most of them are cheapo ones though. Dh only has a couple of pairs which he wears until they fall apart. He couldn't understand why I bought 2 more pairs of sandals in Primark, same ones in different colours, they were done to £1, when I'd bought a couple of pairs a week or two before. But of course he thinks that new gadgets are one of life's essentials.:)
