AIBU?

To think my friend is BU.

I have found a great deal for a last minute break to Spain next week for me and 5 friends. We are a group who go away on 'girls holidays' quite often (last time for a weekend to Benidorm in May).

I am a single parent and I have a 4 year old boy who can be a bit of a handful so I really need a break from him. I have asked a friend if she can look after him for the 4 days that I am away. She does have her plateful with three children of her own, 2 of who have SN. Plus her boys are at a different school to my DS so I agree it might be a bit difficult.

But she has said no. I really need a break and I thought that as she was a good friend she would help me out. I have told her I think she is being a bit of a bad friend. I dont know if she is jealous because we didnt ask her to come, but she is a bit of a home body and wouldnt want to come anyway.

You agree it 'might be a bit difficult' for her? Hmm

This must be AIBU in reverse and you are the one who has been asked?

squeakytoy · 14/07/2011 18:15

Are you really the "friend" :)

This has got to be a reverse AIBU, right?? In which case, of course you weren't BU.

ENormaSnob · 14/07/2011 18:17

Is this one of those backward aibu?

Either that or you are nuts.

MugglesandLuna · 14/07/2011 18:17

Yes I am the friend being asked.

I wanted to make sure I am doing the right thing saying no. When I explained my objections she said I was being awkward Hmm.

Dammit- I'm such a slow typer it looks like I was only the third person to come up with the "reverse" theory, when in fact I thought of it before either peggoty or beachedbabe!

YABVU, unless you regularly take her 3 off her hands,in which case i might be a bit more sympathetic, but its still a huge ask, especially with different schools

can ANYONE be so selfish as to think this would be OK??

AtYourCervix · 14/07/2011 18:18

No, No and keep repeating.

squeakytoy · 14/07/2011 18:19

I would tell her that maybe if she curtailed her gallivanting and spent more time with her kid, he might not be so much of a handful. :)

ashamedandconfused · 14/07/2011 18:20

thank goodness you are the friend - she's got a real nerve, I'll say that for her!

Report
MugglesandLuna · 14/07/2011 18:20

I am a bit of a pushover normally, so I can sort of understand why she asked. But she has been a bit hostile since I said no. She cancelled coffee with me tomorrow because ' She doesnt want to be any more disappointed than she already is'.
