to be really pleased with DC's schools?

Whilst this isn't a thread about a thread, it is inspired by the number of threads I've read about how crap teachers are, how rubbish schools are etc. and I just wanted to say how fab my children's schools are, how their teachers are doing a great job and how pleased I am.

My DD is in reception and decided to change her name on Monday (as Reception children sometimes do) and her teacher remembered to call her by her 'new name' for the whole day. A small thing, but my DD was absolutely delighted and ran out of school beaming to tell me.

My DS is in year 7 in a school where he knew no one when he started. He has settled in brilliantly, the teachers are fantastic. The work they put into to running after school clubs and shows, the dedication and commitment they show to the children is outstanding.

As a parent, I accept that the schools and staff aren't perfect. They are people doing jobs and sometimes they make mistakes. Sometimes the schools make decisions that I am not enamoured with, but then I also accept that I might not be privy to all the information and that the school doesn't operate to upset my children and piss me off.

Of course YANBU. My DD and I are moving soon, she will be going into Y6 at at totally different school in a completely different country with another curriculum.
She was lucky enough to spend a morning at her new school. She is so full of praise for it and can't wait to start.
It is a huge relief for me and her outlook is thanks to the wonderful teachers

How lovely - I am also really pleased with my dc's teachers. Ds 1 is in Y4 and after a couple of years of slight boredom his teacher this year has really motivated him and he gets so excited about everything they are learning. Ds2 is in Y2 and has been having some anxiety issues and his teacher has really supported him and tried to see things from his point of view.

I'm with you 100%, there has been so many moany threads about schools and staff just lately, though from many years of teaching I know that this is the worst time of year for it. I don't think some parents realise just how much hard work and planning goes into organising all the trips and events that come at the end of the school year.

I agree onadifferentplanettoday and I think far too many parents are happy to jump on the slightest thing claiming it to be an issue, or wondering if other people think it's an issue. Or failing to see that they might actually be at fault in the first place, or even that no one is at fault it's just one of those things.

We are just very happy with our children's schools.

Sometimes reading books don't get changed, sometimes homework doesn't get marked, sometimes letters get sent out at the last minute (for a hastily arranged last minute trip), sometimes selection processes don't appear to be fair, but I don't really think it's that big a deal!

I want to say how wonderful my DC's current school is and how sad we are to be moving to a new one. Nervous to say the least. We've been utterly spoiled with the quality of teaching and care at this one.
