AIBU?

to tell dh that I want to take the present back that he bought me

It was my birthday yesterday, and for ages now dh has been trying to get ideas on what to buy me, he's not very good at presents and I usually pick something for myself (which I dont mind doing).

Anyway, as it was a special birthday, he's been asking for ideas from me and dropping hints about getting me a new laptop. I didnt really want or need a new laptop and told him that I was happy with my current one.

His workmates are into all techy stuff and get the latest all singing /dancing technology and I think they have talked him into getting me one. I dont want it and although there is nothing else that I really wish for, I would rather spend the money on new clothes, bit of jewellry, nice bag.

Its not even as it dh has bought it thinking he can use it because he's hopeless on computers.

Is it awful of me to gently explain this to him and return it?

An Airfix kit? Shock
How did he explain that one?

No, yanbu.

However my dh bought me a surprise laptop, that I really didn't want or particularly appreciate at the time, but after it sat in the box for two months I gave it a go and now I LOVE it.

Because I happened to mention in a shop as a passing comment that i used to make them as a kid. He though it would be a nice throwback to my childhood Hmm

Airfix? That's like when Homer bought Marge a bowling ball for her birthday ......

Hmmm. Men do really DO hints though do they. He probably took you saying "I am happy with my current laptop and do not want a new one" as "I would love a new laptop". Bless. Seems a little mean to burst his bubble, especially if there is nothing else you would like. Maybe donate your old one to a womens refuge or something so something nice ocmes out of the situation?

But actually Sorting - that is romantic in a cack-handed way

jamie oh i completely agree. It's just, as you say, very VERY cack handed! It made me laugh though and if i ever get the time in the day to make it I'll give it to him for a Christmas present...

I've posted today on total fail on this year's birthday.

However, for my 40th ex dh got me a pair of Leeds United away strip socks - not even the full kit......

I thought it might be the precursor to some kinky football themed bedroom antics (on me head son!) but no, it was just a pair of socks

Confused

My dad once bought my mum an electric carving knife for Christmas. He was lucky to live until Boxing Day....

I'd just be honest if I were you....

One of the two pressies DH bought me for my 40th recently was some perfume.

No idea what it's like because I've got no sense of smell.

YANBU but be prepared to have a grumpy DH, I've had some shocking pressies over the years. I don't really do the asking for stuff or dropping hints but one year I went on a bit about how much I'd like a small Radley bag but I couldn't imagine spending that kind of money on myself... He bought me an expensive bag but it was hideous wasn't quite right, so I took it back and swapped it for another one... I haven't heard the end if it and it was years ago Hmm
funnily enough when he bought me by mac PowerBook I was thrilled Grin

'my' not by
And yes i realise neither of these pressies are shocking but the dented breadbin, kitchen scales for valentines, a new thermostat for the shower and a collection of promises that have never materialised are!Grin

DH bought me jewellery for our anniversary and I told him I couldn't wear it and didn't like it so he got his money back and bought me a lovely dress instead.
