AIBU?

To think that a lot of MNers repeat one another and what we need IS.....

I've been reading some AIBU threads, and I can't help but notice that a lot of people end up making the same point as one another. Like "omg YABVU! You are odd" or "of course YANBU! What a weirdo!" or "I haven't bothered reading this thread, but I'll leap in anyway with the first conclusion everyone else came to anyway because I haven't read any of the OP's clarifications as they've been lost within the morass of everyone else leaping to the same conclusion as me!".

Now I know we're all unique little butterflies and sometimes wish for our individual voices to be heard, which is great, of course as many comments as one wishes to make ought to be accommodated within the great forums of MN but AIBU to think it'd save a whole lot of something (it's midnight, I should go to bed...) if MNHQ added a little "thumbs up" type button to posts so MNers could agree with a post they agreed with... so lets say 7 people agreed with a post it just says "7 people think you're talking sense" rather than trawling through half a page of those 7 people chiming in but basically just to agree.

No,it kills discussion.

A whole thread of 'like' or 'not like' = boring.

A "delete" button would also be great for those embarrassing times one posts daft things such as "oo".

it works on lots of places, you can add rep points to people or say they were useful etc. i dont think it would add much to somewhere like AIBU though. i often dont reply if it's all been said but other times i do because i come here to post goddamn it, not just rate peoples posts.

Noo not a delete...the bloopers, mis-spelt and otherwise slightly random ramblings can be the best Grin

banter, honest criticisim is healthy. Its life not everyone has the same opinion but to openly attack is just to harsh in my book especially on a open forum like this.

Being serious I name changed a couple of times cos when I was going through some rubbish a couple of years ago came on here and got some pretty harsh replies. I also got a few pm's from people saying that some mn's just attacked for fun. Anyway, now I know why it got pulled :)

Freudian slips are just too funny..a delete button would stop some of the funny conversations that this can create.

But so often it's not "discussion" at all, it's just people weighing in with the same thing a lot of other people have said. I'm absolutely not proposing a simple vote board for AIBU, simply that if someone has already said it better you may agree with a "like" or "Exactly!" or whatever. And the lack of one is a discussion-killer, because it leads to enormous dull threads which new posters couldn't be bothered trawling through. A like button would aid discussion imho.
