right... AIBU to sometimes think it would be good to rename MN as gender-neutral, e.g. ParentsNet?

Orbinator Sat 09-Jul-11 14:02:21

Don't think that would work...I'm pregnant so not technically a parent yet. Some people on here are trying to conceive or have no kids, etc. You can't please all the people all of the time.

YANBU. Have some brew smile

HoneyNorwegianRidgebackdragon Sat 09-Jul-11 14:03:21

but it was set up by mums.....

LineRunner Sat 09-Jul-11 14:04:46

'Set up by mums by taken over by men as soon as it started being socially important-Net'.

LineRunner Sat 09-Jul-11 14:05:28

'Set up by mums BUT taken over by men as soon as it started being socially important-Net.'

MadYoungCatLady Sat 09-Jul-11 14:05:34

I can see where you are coming from OP, but the name 'mumsnet' is quite famous now so I think it would be too late to change. I assume it started lif as a forum for mums?

SloganLogan Sat 09-Jul-11 14:08:55

Once something becomes traditional and entrenched, it's pretty hard to get people to change, even if they'd make a different decision if starting from square one...

catgirl1976 Sat 09-Jul-11 15:34:49

Is there a nunsnet? They should totally have one.

purplepidjin Sat 09-Jul-11 15:36:37

Mr Marks and Mr Spencer and Mr Sainsbury are all dead yet the shops are still named after them. Why change a good brand name?

Orbinator Sat 09-Jul-11 15:38:40

Yorkie Bars still trade on the strapline "Not for Women" but we don't let that stop us getting at the chocolate wink

tethersend Sat 09-Jul-11 15:49:26

YummyParents wouldn't sound so good when they're slagging us off on the news.

But, in principle, YANBU.

SloganLogan Sat 09-Jul-11 16:41:52

You know, Orbinator, I really wish I didn't like Yorkies...

AgentZigzag Sat 09-Jul-11 16:47:20

'Bumsnet' would be gender neutral, and reflect the posters into the bargain.

SloganLogan Sat 09-Jul-11 16:50:30

Or how about Scrumsnet?

MoreBeta Sat 09-Jul-11 16:52:21

MrMan - nope. Been argued endlessly in the past. Never going to happen. You know what women are like once they make up their mind. hmm

<slides effortlessly into asbestos underpants, stands near fire extinguisher>

AgentZigzag Sat 09-Jul-11 16:52:23

'Slumsnet'? For when AIBU swallows up the rest of the boards.

AgentZigzag Sat 09-Jul-11 16:57:02

<<gives beta aggressive nipple tweak>>

SloganLogan Sat 09-Jul-11 17:27:52

With all the biscuits I've seen on here recently it has to be Crumbsnet!

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe Sat 09-Jul-11 17:31:54

Nobody is going to allow the name to be changed when publicity for Mumsnet is involved, are they? Branding and all that. I think it should stay as it is anyway. If men are posting on it then it obviously doesn't matter to them what it's called.
