Hello Gabbyloggon. Are you going to go on about 'Cameroony' next? Maybe cite the 'Torygraph'? Maybe think up some new stuff to talk about now that you've had a reprieve?

Because we're supposed to be aspirational no bloody rolly eye icon
Despite that meaning there would be no one to clean public toilets or empty refuse.

yellabelly · 09/07/2011 09:49

Everyone is never going to be aspirational/ambitious . Anyway, rampant ambition is a selfish thing. We think of ourselves as social animals.

Do you really want to be like rupert murdoch or simon cowell?

I think you're wrong. Tories aren't just rotten to poor people. They're rotten to everyone who's not seriously wealthy. Even the people middle middles who think the Tories will look after them.

The Tories are "kind" to big business and the wealthy. That is, people like them.

BelleDameSansMerci · 09/07/2011 09:57

Oh, and for the record, I don't think there's anything wrong with being "rampantly ambitious". That doesn't preclude a social conscience.

Why are the Tories rotten to poor people? Trouble is that people on low incomes are less able to cope with even minor price rises (usually out of government control), are also big users of public services and big recipients of public cash. So any change, however small, to public spending policy is going to affect poor people disproportionately. We have an economic situation at the moment which all parties pre-election planned to cope with to a greater or lesser degree by trimming public spending. A Tory-led government will always spend less rather than more but, given the international pressure on all governments to get their financial houses in order, my feeling is that a Labour-led government (with its fair share of millionaires on the front bench) would be doing something very similar indeed.

You just don't get it. Being anything other than flagrantly wealthy isn't just wrong, it's immoral and no amount of honest living can excuse such blantant selfishness and disregard for society.

As an individual, it's your responsibility to generate real and tangible wealth for the good of this country and society. If you are having problems fulfilling your obligation to create wealth and thus justify your existance, you must, at the very least, start to see the need to beg, steal, extort or borrow or (should your image be such that being seen to do neither of the above is neccesary) acquire and ally yourself closely with friends who will beg, steal, extort or borrow phone hack on your behalf.

There really isn't any excuse. So stop snivelling into your poor purse and get out there, be ambitious and create money!

Tories aren't particularly nice to anyone, not just poor people.

It's just that poor people take more from the state, so there is more that can be taken away from them.

But poor people will always get support from the government. It's the ones in the middle, especially those only just over the 'poor' limit, that I feel the most for.

"my husband has a degree, but he does not see it my way." so what, degrees are for specific subjects. Life is for all subjects. I assume we have some people here on Mumsnet with degrees.

They are usually gained to get a better job.

Good summary, Custy.
Shame it has no basis in reality.

I'd agree, it's not just those on benefits or the working poor they're squeezing, it's everybody except their "considerably richer than yeaow" mates.

Yellabelly (Gabbyloggon)... you keep asking people to discuss the subject but you're avoiding it yourself. Come on, illuminate us before those meds wear off and we're back to your usual rubbish.
