To think I don't need Kirstie Allsopp's/Persil's help to do activities with my DC?

O god, I probably am, but am watching 'Help My House Is Falling Down' (flipside of property porn, love it Blush) and there have been some tooth-achingly twee ads with La Allsopp and some adorable children (not hers, but seems to be pretending that they are?) crapping on about various activities to do - the crux of which seems to be that these will be terrific fun but will lead to your DC getting messy, thereby necessitating their clothes being washed in Persil.

I used to like Kirstie Allsopp, but increasingly she makes my teeth itch. I am sure some of the activities are lovely, and goodness knows I could probably do with some new ideas so I don't have to do 'action painting' in the garden with the spray bottles again (thank you for that one, Mister Maker Angry). But I dunno, the ads just made me feel really cranky.

I want to slap her these days with her unattainable niff naffy twee upcycling lifestyle

Yeah - take your Cath Kidson and stick it where the sun don't shine Allsopp. And take your rice crispy cakes with you.

oh it was simply awful, didn't make any sense, no clear message and a classic case of wanting a particular celeb before working out what you're gonna say

puke making patronisingly awful

I do love that house falling down show tho!

"puke making patronisingly awful" Grin

I love Kirstie!
I went and blew my own glass bauble at the Glass centre in Sunderland after watching her show! I am her sheep.
I love her homemade home stuff - makes me feel all nostalgic and snuggly
Baaaaaaaa

vogonmothership - love the name (some poetry perhaps?)

They're definitely not her kids- hers are boys. My DH just said he bet her kids were too naughty to be on the ad so they had to draft in some nice little girls! Feel a bit bad, because I bet she's a mumsnetter!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/07/2011 21:16

I have done the bauble thing at Sunderland too! But not because of scraggly Allsop.
I wish they had set her up in a pooh explosion scenario, something far more Persil worthy.

It's a shit advert and I won't be buying sodding Persil any time soon.

I used to like Kirstie as she was so splendidly bossy and a bit posh. I have been quite annoyed that after making a career on persuading people that property was easy money, she now seems to have refocused her career on this knit your own house bollocks.

Those ads make me change channel immediately.

I KNOW! They are so frikin' annoying. i love her and Phil on Location, Location, Location, but they really don't transfer well to other formats.

I loathe those ads. Also, in the breadmaking one, the kids have obviously added far too much water to the mix. There is no way on earth they will be able to knead that dough into anything resembling bread.

So stop bloody trying to pretend you can!

'unattainable niff naffy twee upcycling lifestyle' Oh yes Grin

Tbh my washing falls into: is it a brown, green or orange stain? Biological composition: best unrevealed. And none of them are going anywhere in a namby pamby 30 degree wash.

Whatever colour it is, it didn't get there via some twee activity round a kitchen table either.

It makes you wonder what fucking focus group approved her ghastly adverts.

I LOVED that homemade home show. It made me laugh my primark socks off every episode.

It was hilarious.

I particularly enjoyed her 'sourcing' a tatty 1970 cook book for her SIL for a couple of quid and then £20 in VV rouleux on ribbons to wrap it for Christmas.

The fun I had imagining her SIL face on Christmas day opening that

And buying glass bottles off the market for a fiver. The ones you can get in the pound shop for, well, a pound.

She inhabits a whole other world.

Brilliant

AND that episode when she wanted to run up some soft furnishings for 'next to nothing'. How fortunate that she happened to have a close family friend how has a rustic looking chest just stuffed with vintage Liberty prints and Silks.

Like you do.

I think sums it up. For when you want something humble..

MrsDeVere - I think it's that 'whole other world'-ness that made me want to break the TV when the knit-your-own-doorstop TV show was on. I mean, FFS!

And as someone else said, the Persil ads just don't make sense. DH has been sitting next to me fulminating about this at length - I have infected him with my anti-Allsopp madness Grin.

Arf at the link Grin.

I also liked her, wasabipeanut, for being bossy and posh - she was a bit like the splendid head girl you had a bit of a pash on at school (see also Kate Winslet). But DH has just rightly pointed out that on LLL, Kirstie is bossing other people around, and we could (if we were that way inclined - which of course we are not) take schadenfreudesque pleasure in that. In Homemade Home and these flipping ads, she is bossing us around, which is considerably less fun.

She is so ill at ease with those kids and I loathe her Hattie Jacques clothes

That sketch reminds me of the vintage fairs held in the posh part of the borough where I live (its a very small part of the borough).

We have a brilliant old style thift shop on my side of town and the traders descend upon it like locusts and buy up anything slightly aged.

They attach dinky little luggage tags to them with a chi chi description and a eyewatering price on - and bobs yer uncle.

I love some of the stuff but I just cant bring myself to pay £40 for something I know was in a cardboard box in the Sally Army shop for £1 a week before.

Still - who loses?
