AIBU?

To wonder how you would react in this situation?

On holiday a substantial distance from home - think 8 hour flight. A couple of days in your DP/DH/DW sustains an injury to his/her neck that when she wakes in the morning she is barely able to move and actually is sick and breaking out in a cold sweat with the pain. Three days later they are still in serious pain, that is not really subsiding.

Can I ask how you would react to them and what you would try to do for them?

Would you

a. Seek immediate medical attention for them, as you do have travel insurance, would you be worried and concerned for them etc?

Or

b. Would you check on line that your holiday insurance was covered then go back to bed leaving them in absolute agony, would you then for the next few days discourage them from seeking medical attention as it is a "pain in the arse, in this country", encourage them to wait until they were getting home in 10 days time? Would you show little or no interest in their injury and make no allowances for it at all?

Just wondering.

I would do a.

I'm guessing from your posting name that your husband did b?

Er, A

Sorry this has happened. Is he often like this?

Uncaring twat.

Don't want a possibly serious neck injury spoiling his holiday then? Hmm

What did you do to injure it?

How are you now?

Well if "a" hadn't already been done then I'd seek medical advice for myself.

Then when I was better I would be 'avin words with said partner.

Holy hell in a basket.

Anyone leaving someone in that discomfort is just rotten.

I hope that the pain is better and that you will be well enough to enlist the services of a really good divorce solicitor

Where exactly were you?

Definately b. But then I'm a lazy, self centred, uncaring beatch!

(Hope it's not too serious)

A, of course. I'd question how someone actually felt about me if they did B, tbh.

You know you don't really need to ask this right?

i had similar in florida earlier this year, except i damaged my knee

my OH drove me immediately to the nearest doctor and sat with me & comforted me while i was irrationally stressing about the cost (you normally have to pay upfront and claim back)

Yes, he did B. Or rather is doing B as we are still on holiday atm.

Did it on a water ride with DS. My neck snapped back going down it and I immediately felt sick but no pain. Felt sick and shaky for rest of day but still no pain. Woke up in the morning in absolute agony. Am able to manouvre about but in a lot of pain, probably about 7 to 8 out of 10 on the pain gauge.

Do you think it is whiplash?

Sad holiday not really living up to expectations now as I can't do anything with kids, think I am ruining it for them.

You'll ruin it for them a lot more if this gets any more serious. Get some medical help woman.

Even a strangers compassion can help when a DP has been so uncaring bubbles.

A - tbh though both myself and DH would have been persuading the other person to seek medical attention sooner than day 3 anyway

OP, is this what happened to you with the outcome being scenario b?

FWIW I would choose a. myself. But then again, I have been seriously ill twice at home (so it would have been easy to get help) and had a very blah reaction from family (as in your b. above). One time, I called an ambulance for myself.

I don't know why some people just don't seem to give a toss.

OP, if he's going to be a complete shite then you have to get yourself to medical help. It may be whiplash, certainly sounds a possible scenario to get whiplash, BUT don't take chances with neck injuries. Do you have a rep or anything that can assist?

My dp had a nasty eye injury on hols once.

We had to travel in hideous heat for 3 hours to get to a hospital specialising in eye injuries. The best part of 3 days in hospital (really awful guesthouse accomodation was all i could get), 3 hideous hours travelling back to resort, and basically nursing him until the flight home.

Bummer all round. But when you love someone, and go away together, that is what commitment is all about.

If you are in a hotel, phone reception and get them to sort it. Let your dh worry about the hassle another time.

What the fuck?!?! Get yourself to a doctor woman! Then take a baseball bat to your husband's kneecaps.

A. Remember this next time he comes down with man-flu or other ailment. Arse.

Why can't you seek medical attention yourself?
You need to go and checked out, you could have a fractured neck FFS.
