Biff, Chip, Kipper et al?

Just loading the dishwasher now and got a surge of hatred for them. Really. It's ridiculous. At what stage/level do they fuck off?

joric Wed 06-Jul-11 16:02:36

DD not had them this year - year 3. - so I'm assuming they last until the end of year 2. They were mind numbingly dull and there are loads of ' Biff, kipper and chip the magic key' ones... Zzzz

feckwit Wed 06-Jul-11 16:06:33

Oh god, I hate that reading scheme with a passion! And all the different books, the poem books etc.... zzzzzzz...

faintpositive Wed 06-Jul-11 16:12:44

Year 3. shitheads all of them, especially that fucking dog.

I feel the same about Topsy and bastard Tim.
DS ont he other hand LOVES them.

Favourite at the mo..."Topsy & Tim have itchy heads" fuck the fuck off with your nits....

OpusProSerenus Wed 06-Jul-11 16:13:39

Haha. My DCs are now both in their 20s and I still remember Biff, Chip, Kipper and co. Believe me life moves on quickly and soon you will find a whole new set of people to hate smile

joric Wed 06-Jul-11 16:20:25

You really hate them don't you faint ?!!! grin

ScarletOHaHa Wed 06-Jul-11 16:26:37

have received pages with pics and names of Biff Chip etc. We have been told to show LOs pics and teach them how to recognise names by ready to start reception in Sept, 3 years eh?? hmmmm

youarekidding Wed 06-Jul-11 16:28:32

Really they bin them at year 3. Horrah 3 weeks left of them. grin

Luckily my DS did read write in year R and 1 and choice of books in year 2. Some are ORT and some other schemes. Not so much Kipper and Biff etc though as think they dwindle out as they get past stage 6.

thesunshinesbrightly Wed 06-Jul-11 16:38:04

Yep no more kipper here either DS in year 3.

Mumbrane Wed 06-Jul-11 16:40:07

My DS was bored of them by the time he was about 4 yrs old and his school don't use the ORT - result! However, DD is coming up to the age when she will start to learn to read and is going to a different school, so I may have to face up to more hated Chip and Biff some time soon.

superjobeespecs Wed 06-Jul-11 16:40:52

DD just finished primary one and we were getting introduced to wilf and wilma and i farking hate them all!!!!! biff is a girl? wtf? why dont they have normal names ?! sam tracey and george or something but nooooooo they get biff. chip. and kipper!!! i hate them too can you tell??!!

superjobeespecs Wed 06-Jul-11 16:42:30

bloody magic key!! think the last book we had was granny had the magic key to the dolls house or some crap!! angry hate those damned books...

<ticks over quietly in the corner>

youarekidding Wed 06-Jul-11 18:18:38

Ah see we have A day out in London. Think they appear somewhere and so does Gran but as more of a walk on parts than as stars. grin

fuckmepinkandCALLmegoran Wed 06-Jul-11 18:22:52

Gran and her red sports car grin

skybluepearl Wed 06-Jul-11 18:30:12

You can get them binned in year one or year two if child is happy to get head down and whizz through them. Kids can then move on to more interesting books. We did 20 mins a day reading and that was enough.

Lisaklf Wed 06-Jul-11 18:53:34

We had them until the start of year 5 because DSS is dyslexic hmm . Have now actually buggered off as we convinced the school he may be more inclined to read something thats not complete drivel!
Biff, Chip and Kipper should be used in a public warning ad about the dangers of electric train lines along with Roger Red Hat, Billy Blue Hat and Jennifer Yellow Hat which was the drivel I had to read as a child.

HerHissyness Wed 06-Jul-11 19:00:50

PMSL! hear hear!

BerylOfLaughs Wed 06-Jul-11 21:17:21

Year 3!!! You've got to be kidding me! DD is only in Reception. I counted up the number of books she has read this year in her reading record - 90 of them! At least 90% ORT with those bastard kids.

youarekidding Wed 06-Jul-11 21:54:58

Don't panic. Friends DD1 had read them all by first term of year 2 and has had free choice since then. Some children will complete them - just those who don't usually have them binned by year 3. smile

Try reading 180 in year 1. wink

BerylOfLaughs Thu 07-Jul-11 09:34:49

180 in year 1. Blimey.
Do you know what ORT stage Biff/Chip etc finish at, we're at level 9 now, I'm hoping it must stop in the teens somewhere.

Terribletriplets Thu 07-Jul-11 11:12:50

We had Roger Red Hat, etc. I used to read them very quickly to dc, so that they wouldn't have to. I thought it might put them off reading for ever. Dc read 'real books'. Not now Bernard, Each Peach Pear Plum, etc.

thekidsmom Thu 07-Jul-11 11:15:07

Well, I loved Biff, Chip and Kipper.... but to this day (and we're going back over 10 years now1) DH still gets riled about them. Along the lines of 'who the hell ever called their kids Biff and Chip? What happended to Janet and John?'

CurrySpice Thu 07-Jul-11 12:20:13

Ermm...I quite liked them blush and we liked looking out for the pair of glasses that were in almost every one

<easily pleased emoticon>

kreecherlivesupstairs Thu 07-Jul-11 12:22:40

DD was loaned videos of them when she was about four. Sadly, the VCR couldn't play them more than once.

CurrySpice Thu 07-Jul-11 12:33:50

<nods sympathetically at kreecher>

Yes, some VCRs can be very tempremental like that can't they? Mine had a similar problem with Rosie and fucking Jim
