Bugger! I fancied getting one of those so didn't have to shave so often. You've put me off now :o

They are fantastic! If you can get over the sound of a vibrator they do totally pull out everything. Much smaller hairs than waxing can manage. However its's not fun in the winter if you have cold rooms in your house. Bony areas hurt the most but to be honest you do get used to the pain in time.

Stick with it. The more you do it, the less it hurts.

Except the bikin line - that always hurts like fuck.

No pain ,no gain.Properly this time this is way harder than an exercise programme. It does actually work though. I have dark hair everywhere and if you use it everyday it days eliminate the rough stuff you get with waxing yet stps them growing back as quick.

Shaving your legs doesn't hurt at all though. Why use anything on your legs that even hurts a little bit?

It does get easier, keep at it and try putting some talc on your legs first,

I much prefer epilating to shaving or waxing.

It may hurt the first time, but keep going and you'll very soon get to a point where it won't hurt at all - maybe hairs that have been yanked out with their roots grow back thinner/weaker?

That said, I'd want a general anaethestic before I let an epilator anywhere near my bikini line.

I just brought one today too! Boots had them on offer apparently, £80 reduced to £50 at the till, bargain Grin

But YABU, it doesn't hurt much at all (I'm a seasoned waxer though)

I was exactly the same the first time, but persevered and now the hair on my legs is much thinner and in patches it is bald. I wouldn't say that it doesn't hurt at all, but it is bearable.

Still haven't plucked up courage to do my arm pits though

My sister bought one after I'd bought mine, used it once and gave it as it hurt too much!

Mine is quite old now and the hairs on my legs and underarms grow back very finely - I've tried using it on my bikini line - once - never again! It hurt.

I have found that the epilator itself isn't as painful as I thought it would be. It's half an hour afterwards when my skin goes bright red and pin-pricked and I feel as though I want to tear it all off that is a bit of a problem. Does anyone else get this and have you found anything that calms it down?

I only use mine on my bikini line and shave my legs, it hurts me less on my bikini line

I had one years ago and it was fantastic, it really kept the need to re-do my legs to around the 6 week mark.

I bought a new silk epil a few months back, and I keep trying with it, but it misses half the hairs and after about ten days, it's ready to do again anyway.

I've given up now and gone back to shaving - it took so long to epilate, it wasn't worth it for the short time I was hair (ish - see note above!) free.

But, the pain does get easier if you keep at it, in fact, after a while you won't even notice it!

I've bought one too and although it stings a bit, it will be soo nice not to have to shave my legs every other day.

The more you do it, the less it stings - like plucking your eyebrows.

I find having a cold cloth helps sooth it.

Anyone thinking of buying one, the more blades (sorry can't think of the right word), the better. Also, use it on the fasted setting and go slowly - it will be more effective.

A week?! When I shave it's back in hours! And I've been waxing for a good few years almost exclusively now! Envy

I have one. Fine for legs but underarms / bikini line sensitive and came out in huge rash.

I've been using one for a few years and the hair is definitely thinner and would agree with the person who said they have completely bald patches. You really do get used to the pain, although the knees are always a bit tingly! I remember the first time I did my armpits - took 2 shots of tequila to deal with the pain! Hardly notice it now though and love the lack of the shadow you seem to get with shaving. Have recently bought an all singing and dancing silk epic, not sure that I prefer it to my old one though.

Going to add, personally I wouldn't buy again - leads to ingrown hairs, its very painful (for me didn't work on underarms and bikini line as rash too over a week to heal). Good for legs though but I don't have much hair on legs.

I have just bought a IPL.....

Epilators are fantastic. Perservere and once you have got used to it you won't even flinch. I use mine for everything: legs, pits, bikini line, upper lip Blush

Only tackle very short hairs.

Shave your legs tonight - then have a go with the epilator in a week/10 day's time.

Afterwards wipe with tea tree facial wipes, or cotton wool pads soaked in face toner.

Do them every week or so, takes 10 mins max.
