To be pissed off that out of €624 I have €14 left.

Collected my child benefit this morning and after buying school books for 2DC I have ?14 left.
Which is earmarked for the tv licence.

14 books,1 recorder,copies,folder for DC1 and nine books,folder for DC2.Cheapest one was ?12-95.Thats not including school shoes.And the ''voluntary'' contribution.And photocopying.
We already paid ?70 to secure DC2's place.Free education my hole.

Bloody recorder cost ?29.

Yes you are BU as it's child benefit and it went on the children, no?

It wasn't TV licence benefit after all :)

Well for every child in Ireland you get CB regardless of income.I have 4 children.

I never buy books in the high street any more, I know I can always get them cheaper online - did you need them in a rush?

It might sound a lot but when you pay ?55 for a doctors visit,?20 approx for a prescription etc.
Personally I would prefer to have the NHS and less CB.Sounds a lot to anyone outside Ireland but this country is so expensive.Saw a double priced top in M&S the other day.?26/£12.

I think the hint in the OP is the currency ?.

The benefit system in Ireland is completely different to the one here.

If it's a descant and for group lessons I can understand the teacher not wanting to go for the cheapest. Not a nice sound. It also helps if all the children have the same model as they will be easier to tune to each.

As for it being the most expensive you're way out. Can go up to over a grand for a professional model.

Yes the same Ireland.They wanted to means test it but wheres the cut off?The working poor would be plunged into poverty without it.

I understand Where but I was looking and saw them for ?12/?16 etc.
Also most of the books are workbooks.Surely in these times when people are choosing between heating and eating they should revert back to the good old copybook.

I completly understand that it sounds a lot but costs are so high here.I was in Manchester recently and eating out cost me £22.Same meal here would have cost at least ?50.

I know the NHS isn't perfect but imagine having a sick child and only ?20 in your purse.

i like reading threads like this, just shows how lucky we are to have the NHS and all it has cost me is the price of school uniform.

No pirate.There are medical cards for those on benefits (Jobseekers etc) and GP visit cards for lower earners but it was revealed that many families are living hand to mouth due to being on the limit for additional help and therefore paying for everything.

But it's health insurance isn't it? I have to pay for my healthcare in Switzerland, but only if it's below my premium no claims amount. You have to bank that money at the beginning of the year, as it's not yours to spend technically. I'm still better off though as it's cheaper than NI.

I don't understand what a Voluntary contribution is sorry, it's all a bit vague.

And I apologise if this seems upfront, but it was your decision to have 4 kids, that wasn't forced upon you like the healthcare...
