To hate asda right now?

I ordered my shopping to come today between 10-12 today, the plan was to then go out for the afternoon and then to cook dinner for my sister.

I ordered it on Friday morning but having lost my purse I had cancelled my card but asked my bank to make sure the asda transaction was honoured.

At gone 12pm today there had been no delivery. So I ring, get put on hold for 10mins the lady says she is sorry and will call me back with an explanation. 20 mins later no call swo I ring again, another 10 mins on hold another lady apologises and says she will get the store to call me back.

By 1pm I go to another supermarket and get my shopping.

By 2.30pm still no calls from asda to explain although I had guessed it was because my card had been cancelled BUT my question is:

Am I being unreasonable in expecting ASDA to call me before the expected delivery time and let me know the card hasn't worked and they are not going to be delivering my shopping, as then I would have gone shopping before 12pm and then would still have been able to have the afternoon out with dc's? (had to cancel because by the time I'd been shopping it was too late)

I apologise for the boring ness of my thread btw.
I will be ringing the manager tomorrow as my husband was promised another call back but no-one has rung.

Also there is the fact they have been messing up my shopping orders for about 4 months now. I ring to complain every week in the hope it will improve but it never does, it used to be great but now it's awful. They don't even write what they have subsituted they just leave it as if they have delivered what I asked for then as I'm putting it away I realise they have given me different flavoured items to the ones I ordered. I want the flavour I ordered not the flavour the picker could be arsed to find.

Asda have form for being absolutely appalling about deliveries - there are numerous threads on here.

YANBU, they are massively incompetent

Asda's deliveries are notorious for ballsing up. I've stopped using there online shopping and using Sainsburys instead. Much better, always on time and the drivers are so polite. And you get free delivery if you spend over £100 (which I frequently do when getting an online shop).

You used a card that was cancelled? Hardly surprising your shopping did not arrive.

I'm pissed off with Tesco this week for deciding not to delivery ANY of the frozen items I ordered then "apologising" with a poxy £10 voucher! The missing items alone were worth more than that, it's just insulting! They're getting terrible recently too and my fairly reliable delivery has been getting worse and worse.

I'm ready to stop using them but I don't know what the alterantive is. Ocado is more expensive (price match my arse), and ASDA and Sainsburys seem to be even worse if the endless thread on here are to be believed.

I'm going to have to go back to actually going to the bloody supermarket aren't I? Sad

why on earth are you still shopping with them then. They get one chance with me, two at a push and after that I vote with my purse and take my custom elsewhere

You can't expect Asda to monitor their online shopping & ring you when YOUR card doesn't work.

I used to use Tesco but started using Sainsburys because of cost, variety etc. One time we had a Tesco shop due in the afternoon & they rang us first thing that morning to let us know payment hadn't gone through. It was because a cheque hadn't cleared in time & they let me use another card & delivered the shopping later that day. Top customer service.

With Sainsburys, if somethings missing they refund you over the phone or email an e voucher to use next time. One time when it clicked it was a bag of frozen missing they got the driver to come back with the food.

Asda sound rubbish.

have you seen how these pickers chose your food and sling it in the bag? the quality of fruit ect they couldnt care less so im afraid the only way to avoid the rubbish service is to actually go to the store where you can pick the quality of fresh foods and if one flavour or brand isnt there chose another come on ive a family of 5 work and a disabled husband and autistic son and if i can find time ( ia hate shopping too) anyone can

I have had trouble with my card through Sainsburys before and they always phone at the start of the alloted delivery slot, we sort it out and the food is still delivered on time. No problem.

FabbyChic She has stated that she sorted out the card thing with her bank. Did you not read it?

Bohica Is that a joke? Sainsburys ring if there is a card problem, as I believe other supermarkets do, so why can't Asda? They are supposed to have call centres just for that.

Asda is rubbish for delivery. We had problems in the winter when they couldn't deliver to us, but managed to deliver to our neighbour, but they charged up TWICE for the order anyway.

drivemecrazy, you are right! I work with someone who used to be a picker for Asda and he is full of horror stories about it.

I don't get the point that the part of your order that is missing is more than the compensation they have given you.

Okay, so you didn't get your stuff but are £10 in profit.

YANBU

A call would have been courteous as they would have known your card had been declined early in the morning probably.

I use tesco and really cant complain. When I got a new debit card 3-4 years ago I buggered up the numbers when typing them into tesco website. They called in the morning and as I was still asleep (late shift day before) they left a message asking me to call back. I never actually woke up until a tesco man knocked on my door and said he had my shopping but they just had to confirm my card details. A quick call to tesco on his mobile and all was fine and he gave me my shopping. I liked them before that incident but that just made me like them all the more. Just the fact they were willing to put my shopping on a van and put it out for delivery despite my card not going through and me not calling back.

I know theres complaints about all supermarkets but Asda seem to be the winner when it comes to complaints about their delivery service. Either they dont show up, or shopping is missing, or they charge twice etc. I wouldn't go near them!

Report
Blatherskite · 03/07/2011 16:43

Only if I chose to shop there again as it's a £10 voucher off my next shop.

Given the regularity with which they're messing up orders these days, I'm not sure I want to.

As it is, I now don't have half the stuff I need for this weeks meals. Being as I now have to go to a Supermarket anyway, I might as well have picked up the whole lot and saved myself a fiver on the delivery charge so currently the shop has cost me £5 more than it should have.

Just to buck the trend............!

I have ongoing problems with Tesco that their website won't accept my credit card. To add insult to injury it's a Tesco credit card! So far they have suggested using Mozilla Firefox as it "might" go through off that and "try again in 2 hrs or so" by which time I've usually lost my delivery slot. Their customer service say they can do nothing and their techical support acknowledge there is a problem but just don't seem to care.

I generally go to the shops myself but on the odd occasions I have used Asda they've been fine

I actually really like asda, they even delivered in knee high snow.

My worst experience after 2 years of using them would have to be getting turnips instead of carrots. :)

Thanks, my husband has now spoken to the manager, I have a £10 voucher and free delivery that is IF I ever choose to shop with them again which is unlikely, I will probably use that and then never use them again but I will wait until I am especially skint and less annoyed with them first!

It turns out my card was declined at 9.07am. They failed to ring me back TWICE (because ignoring me was obviously going to help Hmm) Imo they should have been the ones called me to say it had been declined as I am not a mind reader.

To answer why I still shopped with them the answer is because having shopped around over the years out of the ones who will deliver they are cheaper and we are always skint plus I hate going food shopping (I hate all shopping, food is the worst kind i think though) I work over 50 hours per week and have a very hectic life style as do most working mums Smile I do like the prices and the food at places like aldi/ lidl/ netto BUT i hate the fact each item has to be moved 6 or 7 times and when I am shopping for 7-9 people that's a lot of stuff to be moving so many times, so imo it's very time consuming and I feel I'm being rushed at the checkout which I don't like.

Well (this is so boring but as you asked..........bear with it Wink)
You select product from the shelf and put into trolley, from trolley to conveyer, back into trolley, from trolley to bag, lift bags back into trolly, lift bags from trolley to car, from the car into the house then finally each product comes out the bag and away where it goes in the house. Call me lazy if you like (because I know I'm not and anyone who has ever been a childminder knows you cannot look after 6-7 kids without being anything but lazy) but I'd rather pay the fiver to only have to just put it away tbh, it was the joy of online shopping. I do not want to go back to the days of having to give up sunday afternoons with my family to traipse (sp?) round a supermarket. There's never a good time to go when I work from 7.45-6pm and not much point buying it too early on the weekend because I need the fresh stuff to last all week. I usually get it delivered on a sunday evening when I am here sorting the house, uniforms, stuff for work and the shops are all shut anyway.

I know sometimes you are moving a bag of stuff rather than each item each time but still very time consuming and annoying and if they would just let you pack your bag at the check out instead of rushing you and you practically having to throw it in the trolley because it's all piling up because they scan it faster than I can move it out the way iyswim.

Nooooo, the way to shop in Aldi/Lidl/Netto is thus:

Shelf to trolley
Trolley to conveyor belt
Conveyor belt to trolley - this is much easier & quicker than trying to pack there
Trolley to car
Shopping to tubtrugs, bags or boxes in boot
Then unpack at home.
