AIBU?

For not wanting to go to this big event?

I've recently finished a college course and all through it was talk of the big event at the end, the "presentation" - photos, drinks, certificate giving (although it's fake, the real one comes in the post). Everyone is going and I've said I'll go but tbh I'm dreading it. I don't like the vast majority of people on the course so it's not as if I need the whole "catch up" thing. I have no money so buying a new outfit etc will skint me - I can't drink as I'll be driving and it's a tuesday night meaning I'll need to pick the kids up before 9.30pm as they're at school the next day. It just seems a bit pointless me going tbh but if I don't, I'll be letting down another girl who is only going because I was going. I could however arrange for my other friend (also her friend!) to meet her there.

I just can't be arsed with it. I'm glad to see the back of the bloody course and most of the people on it and since it doesn't start while 7pm and I have to leave around 9pm, is there any point in me going??

I'd give it a miss and get on with arranging for your other friend to meet her there.

the beauty of having children is they are brilliant at being able to get you out of things you dont want to go to Wink

I think that if that is how you feel and you are confident you will still feel like that in the future. Then don't go.

I didn't really fancy attending my graduation - hated the photos, getting up on stage. But I'm glad I went because I worked bloody hard and that was the day that recognised that.

If your event isn't going to mean anything to you, then don't go. I agree that children are brilliant for excusing yourself!

Naaaah, YANBU. Don't go.

All you'll miss is warm cheap wine and Twiglets.

What I'm worried about though is that I'll regret not going. Do you think I will? Everyone keeps saying "you've worked so hard all year, you deserve to let your hair down and have a drink and party!" but a) I can't drink and I have a perfectly good carton of fresh orange juice at home Hmm and b) hardly a party when I'm leaving at 9pm in my little car - providing it's still there when I leave!!

I wouldn't go, so I think you are being reasonable.

Lorenz you don't have to go anywhere you don't want to! You've finished your course, got your qualification and that's fine! I didn't go to a similar thing at my old college...I got my papers in the post...I wasn't shelling out for outfits and all that either!

Have your own celebration with a glass of wine or a niCe cake!

if you can organise the friend thing all well and good.

if you tell the other girl you're not going she might be really pleased, cos she won't have to go.

why don't you and her get together at yours for some vino??

I had others plans on the night of mine so just went and did the photo and certificate handover thing. Glad I did as I won an award.

It's not really a big deal if you don't go IMHO
