AIBU?

To want to buy a bag of mixed peppers without any green ones from the supermarket?

Why is it so difficult? Is there a green-pepper mafia in action?

The only mixed bags with no green ones are organic and expensive. The value-range mixed bags are almost always mainly green ones.

And two individual peppers cost more than a 3-pack.

Grrr.

If they didn't include the green ones in a mixed bag then nobody would buy them and the entire planet would be overrun by green peppers Grin

I like the green ones in curry. I was disappointed last week as Sainsbury's didn't have any green ones in the economy bags. We ought to get together for a pepper swap!

The green ones are my favourite...it pisses me off that you can never find a 3-pack with 2 green ones in it, but they always have one with 2 yellows knocking about.

The Market Value ones are the best because you get a shitload of greeners and only a couple of the sweeter varieties.

Is the wholesale price of green peppers cheaper?

When did yellow and orange peppers become more common? I don't remember them at all as a child. I didn't realise how delicious peppers are until my twenties because the red and green ones are so disgusting.

Tesco Value peppers were orange and yellow last week, not a green one in sight and less than £1 for five.

See, this is why I joined MN. I too am a green pepper hater; this is invaluable information. I thank you!

Cattleprod! I'm the same, I only started eating peppers in my early twenties because of those evil green peppers.

Oh oh, I thought Jason Thunderpants was back!

I can't believe I wasted so much time on normal peppers, why did it take so long to discover the Romero red pointy one

I dislike peppers, they smell the same when they come out.

I do like stuffed jalapeños though, or jalapeños in jars.

It wouldn't be "mixed" if it only had nice ones in.

Tesco do a red and yellow 'net' of peppers occasionally

The green ones are much cheaper.... they're only in there to keep the price down. Same reason why 'mixed nuts' are mostly peanuts. Same reason why Quality Street has lots of yellow 'Toffee Fingers'.

I thought that I preferred green peppers to red, but then dh did a blind tasting on me and we found that I couldn't tell the difference!

Green peppers are less ripe and so cheaper, no?

And yes, mixed is mixed...

green ones are best in a cooked dish - chilli or curry
red ones nice in salad mmm

I too am mildly disappointed. I was excited at the possible entertainment of Jason with his Thunderpants in a twist over frozen peppers Grin

I'm ok with green peppers but my wife can't stand them. Often we get lucky with a bag that doesn't have any green ones in, sometimes there are one or two so I eat those ones.
