Not for the first time has this happened. Whoever was supposedly "caring" for this GSD pup and Malinois dog should have known better. There's absolutely no excuse for this cruel negligence - I hope that the criminal is jailed for a very long time.

That's tragic. Surely police officers who are trained to work with dogs should know better? Angry

Thats so tragic and really upset me. This happened last year I believe and the officer in question did not get prosecuted which was disgusting.

No, YANBU - after the last tragic incident, there has been a lot of awareness amongst police dog handlers - this is unforgivable, no matter what the circumstances.

pretentiouswasteoftime · 27/06/2011 17:03

Horrific - absolutely they should have been aware of the risks - poor poor dogs.

Kvetch · 27/06/2011 17:06

This happened in a Police Training Centre too. Shock Angry

And we're supposed to put our trust in these idiots, sometimes our lives in their hands... ????

I'd like to lock the bastards in a boiling hot car, park the car in a giant greenhouse and forget about them for a few --days- hours.

NotaDisneyMum · 27/06/2011 17:07

Rockerchic - the officer in the last case was prosecuted - he was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay costs - not sure if he kept his job, but probably not.

I don't understand how anyone can not realise the risks the amount of publicity about this every year. I sincerely hope this person no longer has a job at the very least. Unexcusable for someone in a supposed position of trust.

Poor dogs :( unforgivable really.

Good grief, just unbelievable. An utterly horrific death; I second what Kvetch said "And we're supposed to put our trust in these idiots, sometimes our lives in their hands... ????"

These are professional dog handlers FFS

How can they be so stupid?

We used to the have the firefighters rescue dogs plodding round our offices when their owners popped by, the search & rescue teams didn't leave them in their cars.

This is totally and utterly horrific BUT it does not need the mass hysteria that seems to have broken out on facebook, I have got friends who are advocating locking the policeman in a van until he dies in the same manner as the dogs.

It's horrible. At the end of the day they are just dogs and are replaceable though and i'm sure the officer concerned is a complete mess right now for his actions led to a horrific and preventable ACCIDENT.

Report
DooinMeCleanin · 27/06/2011 17:48

'At the end of the day they are just dogs and are replaceable though' erm, no they're not. I don't agree with locking him in a car, but he should be punished to the fullest extent of the law and no dog is replaceable or 'just a dog'.

Report
HidinginaHardHat · 27/06/2011 17:49

Yes they are.

Yes he should be punished to the full extent of the law and he probably will be and more because he is a police officer and an example will need to be made of him, and rightly so.

they are just dogs, and replaceable Shock what a lovely way to think.

Way to pick out one part of my post and focus on it!

'just dogs' and 'replaceable' Hardhat?
I find the attitude that animals are insignificant and can simply be 'replaced' totally reprehensible. This was a preventable act of neglect.

Report
DooinMeCleanin · 27/06/2011 17:51

No intelligent, feeling being is replaceable, or just a X. Imagine the suffering these poor, clever dogs felt?

Report
ditavonteesed · 27/06/2011 17:52

no pick about it, jumped out.

Report
HidinginaHardHat · 27/06/2011 17:53

I've already aknowledged it's a preventable act. I've aknowledged how despicable it is.

But I am of the belief that animals are not equal to humans and as such am not as up in arms as others nor do I see the need for the mass hysteria that is doing the rounds.

Report
Kvetch · 27/06/2011 17:56

What utterly offensive, crass tosh, Hiding. That's a disgusting, shameful and inhumane attitude which doesn't elevate you ahead of lower beasts with a less evolved thought process but makes you lesser than them.

The officer responsible for the last needless deaths of GSD in cars was NOT dismissed if I recall rightly. (I'll go back over my AR messages and check).

I'd happily leave the bastards in a hot car to suffer the same fate. There is NO EXCUSE for this tragedy.

mumblebum · 27/06/2011 17:56

It wasn't an accident, it was entirely predictable and avoidable!

Report
HidinginaHardHat · 27/06/2011 17:57

I'm not excusing what is an abhorrent act. I'm dismissing the hysterical attitude that is surrounding this tragic incident.
