What's in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet...

...but it could be improved if you sprinkle glitter on it.

I saw a bunch of red roses in my local Tesco Average store. Somebody had decided that the natural beauty-with-a-hint-of-tart look of them would be improved with the addition of glitter applied to the petals. Am I Being Unreasonable in thinking that's a bit naff? Who would buy them?

You? Hmm? Well, would you?!

deliciousdevilwoman Sun 26-Jun-11 16:47:54

Definitely NBU! As to who would buy them.....why, the kind of woman who has fluffy toys/dolls lined up on her bed, or the kidn of man who wants to shag said woman!

Bast Sun 26-Jun-11 16:48:18

NEVER would I buy them!

Bling roses? FFS

Next, they'll be tarting freesia up with a squirt of something whiffy.

YANBU. I can't abide doctored flowers of any kind. I don't like red roses at the best of times so in fact that's a double YANBU.

the phrase Gilding the Lily springs to mind

YANBU

I don't particularly like roses but what possessed Tesco to put glitter on them I have no idea.

Perhaps it's to get us in the mood for Xmas & the tinsel will be on the shelves next week grin

I saw these in Sainsburys at Mothers Day time and I thought they were just a tacky M.Day gimmick.
Obviously not.
And obviously I didn't buy them.
Nasty.(Shudders)

BelleDameSansMerci Sun 26-Jun-11 17:08:52

I've seen this in Sainsbury's too... I was so horrified I did "loud parenting" to DD (3.9) on why it was such an atrocious thing to do. That's probably more offensive than the glittery flowers, tbh.

TiggyD Sun 26-Jun-11 17:09:42

Maybe it's the Tesco vision of what heaven would be like if it wasn't made up. All flowers would be glittery. Apple trees would also have bananas on them. You could get a pet with a dog's head one end and a cat's head on the other, and no bottom. Hail would be replaced with cheese and crackers. Every time your hair looked messy a little hedgehog would scurry over to you and offer himself as a hairbrush.

Mmmm. Tesco heaven. Can't wait.

Are you all MAD???

Flowers = GOOD.
Glitter = GOOD.

Flowers + glitter = BRILLIANT!

There is nothing that cannot be improved by the addition of glitter and / or sparkles. FACT.

allhailtheaubergine Sun 26-Jun-11 17:17:08

PS - I would like to book a place in Tiggy's heaven.

fedupofnamechanging Sun 26-Jun-11 17:19:40

Glitter should be banned. However careful you are it always ends up in your eyebrows or worse. Remember the Lush glitter bath bomb thread?

You could get a pet with a dog's head one end and a cat's head on the other.

They sell well. Both at 'events' (Xmas, Vals and Mother's) and all through the year too. Shocking isn't it?!

LordOfTheFlies Sun 26-Jun-11 17:23:25

allhailtheaubergine-there is nothing that cannot be improved by the addition of glitter.

My DS ate glitter at nursery( don't ask why) and his nappies were enhanced by glitter and glamour.
Who says you can't polish a turd?
Well you can't but you can vejazzle it.Sort of.grin

tigercametotea Sun 26-Jun-11 17:25:28

Well... glitter now. What next? The addition of artificial scent?

amothersplaceisinthewrong Sun 26-Jun-11 17:26:17

Red roses are naff
Red roses with glitter even naffer

TiggyD Sun 26-Jun-11 17:28:44

The only thing I can think of right now that should have glitter to it is dog food. That way dog poo on the path would be easier to see. And prettier too.

meltedchocolate Sun 26-Jun-11 17:31:14

I saw these and had to tell my mother. I liked them blush but would never buy them.

BelleDameSansMerci Sun 26-Jun-11 17:34:35

They sell well??? Really? Bloody hell! grin

LordOfTheFlies Sun 26-Jun-11 17:41:16

TiggyD why don't we ask the dogfood people to add luminous paint. Then you can see the dog poo at night?

Must write to patent office and get Heston Blumenthal on board to help with the tedious testing and marketing phase....

tinkertitonk Sun 26-Jun-11 17:50:27

Buy them? Never. Be given them? Yes, all the time, and shag the giver. [Lines up fluffy toys.]
