AIBU?

to think I should be able to buy a spiderman or batman dress for a girl

poor dd2 is nearly 4 and doesn't like being 'pretty', she wants to be cool Hmm

She dresses herself and wears batman or spiderman tops out of preference but she really wants a dress or a skirt with them on, which of course I can't find.

Anyone got any links?

And seriously, AIBU to think they could make girls clothes with 'boy' logos that aren't slutty dress up outfits or have had to be handmade.

They do make clothes like that...T.shirts and trousers that are non slutty.

I haven't seen a dress though. Perhaps there's not much call for them?

YABU I think. Why would male characters be associated with girls' clothing? Can you find a transfer or something?

If they don't exist - are you any good at sewing? You could buy a plain skirt or dress, and a top with the required picture on, cut it out and sew it onto the skirt or dress.

Or iron on transfers?

like this

here

just google iron on transfers, there's loads of places.

tshirts and trousers are what she has, but they are boys clothes, and she gets cross seeing that they are in the boys section. And she really wants a dress that isn't pink and 'girlie'

Do you think tarty? What about superman and supergirl? batman and batgirl? they aren't male characters really imo. You can't even get batgirl dresses without them being adult dress up stuff.

There is a lack of female 'superheroes' in the UK; in Belgium and Holland we have a female superhero which all the little girls aspire to.

In english culture, you have to aspire to be a man if you want to be a super hero.

Can you make a simple black/red skirt to go with the spiderman tops?

I think iron on's are the way to go, you are both right. thanks for links.

Still think it's unfair though.

Well Spiderman and Batman are no more likely to be on a dress, than Barbie would be on a pair of boy's underpants Grin

my daughter loves her superheroes too especially spiderman so i had to buy her the spiderman suit and buzz lightyear ! Its awful that you cant get girls clothes with these characters on. If you find any girls clothes with spiderman etc can you give me a link too.

Personally, I don't see why she can't just wear the t-shirts and jeans?

who are your female superheros?
they are both watching sharkboy and lavagirl and she doesn't want to be lavagirl as she is dressed all in pink ffs, she wants to be sharkboy, but without being a boy. its so ridiculous.
And dont start me on wonderwoman, she of the skimpy outfits and bondage tendencies Grin

YABU to think that male superhero costumes should come in skirts and dresses; but NU to find a way for your DD to wear the costumes that are available.

Shame Wonderwoman hasn't made a comeback really, isn't it. Except of course her outfit isn't exactly compatible with a 4yo. Time for some new female superheroes who are dressed with more modesty, perhaps?

micro that would be awesome!

she can and does wear the tshirt and jeans all the time but she wants a party dress for birthday parties that isn't pink, doesn't have flowers and has a 'cool' logo on. or a summer dress she can wear to the beach/lido like her sister and why shoudln't she? She is getting to the age where other children take the piss out of her for wearing boys clothes as well, which makes me beyond angry.

Have stopped asking dd1's friend round as she went through her drawers telling her they were all boys clothes and she wasn't allowed to wear them. Cow.

surely a tshirt with superman on is a tshirt with superman on... it isnt gender specific, and it doesnt really matter that it is in the boys clothing section....

thanks grumpy, that's cool, but its a dress up outfit (and has a pink option!) might get it anyway
that pirate dress is cool, she likes that, thanks!

just to be clear, it's not a costume I want, something like this or this but with a different logo. like normal clothes

hence needing iron ons. so stupid.

they should do them i love skulls and stuff on little girls clothes but i personally cant think of anything that would look uglier than superheroes on dresses or skirts unless i suppose someone proves me wrong then yabu because i wouldnt like it Grin

i also think superheroes look fine on t-shirts jumpers hats gloves, but not jeans or trousers or shorts unless its just the concept as opposed to a superhero, for girls and boys that is ... i think you could put a t-shirt on with a skirt and nice cardigan or something but i just dont feel it would look nice

happy to be proven wrong

squeaky, it doesn't matter remotely to me, or dd2, dd1 gets antsy but she can suck it upGrin
she has asked me for a dress, and I had a little search and couldn't find anything, so was wondering if there was anything, and if not, why not. that's all. I dont think I am asking for anything amazingly bizarre tbh.

Clothes producers cater to the majority. That's why, as a rule, girls clothes don't have male superheroes on.

H&M often have iron on transfers though.

OP, I absolutely agree with you. I have a baby girl after two boys and I'm determined not to go down the disney princess route. I like the Hello Kitty dress you linked to...would she like that?
I've also found lots of 'pretty but not pink' options at M and S and Asda. No superhero logos unfortunately.
