It's a big load of old bollocks, is what it is. Entertainment if we're being kind. Con-trick if we're being unkind. My friend swears by all that kind of stuff and will cite example after example where they make an accurate prediction. But she conveniently forgets the other 99% which didn't come true

Like all of these things, you will hear what you want to hear. Just don't take it seriously.

Palm reading, as far as I'm concerned, is a load of crap.

Tarot reading depends on how you are viewing it.
IMO (and that of anyone scientifically inclined) it doesn't tell the future, because that's just stupid.

However I do own a few tarot sets, and find them very useful when I'm struggling to concentrate on a problem. As far as I am concerned, I know the order of the cards, I know the meanings of said cards, and I know the meanings of the different positions. Most of this knowledge is subconscious of course. So when I shuffle the deck, I subconsciously know where I'm placing the cards. And am therefore answering my own questions.

Of course for this to work I need to know all of the above and be the one doing the shuffling. Plus it has to be an already organised deck.

But then I still have to bear in mind that I am going to read what I want into the cards. So still have to take it with a pinch of salt.

The reason so many people get "accurate" readings is a combination of the above two thoughts. (Most people know the general idea behind the major arcana at least, and the main card layouts)

The other thing is cold readings.

Personally, I'd recommend buying your own deck. Or, even more simply, use a normal playing deck and familiarise yourself with what the different suits are usually connected with (eg. hearts = love/relationships), and the numbers (eg. 1/ace = complete, full)

That way you'll get as close as possible to what is already in your head. If the answer isn't already in your head, then there's no way anything like tarot will ever help you.

When I was younger I went to a palm reader, I was about 20 and was very much against the idea of having kids. Aggressively so.

Palm reader looks at my hand and says (in an appropriately softly spoken, woo kind of voice) "I see that you will have many children.."
She then looks at my face, and the look of terror on it,
"not your own.. you will work with many children.."
look of terror still there
"not children.. lots of animals.."

The look of terror was gone, I was now trying my hardest not to laugh in her face.

I predict you are going through a difficult time and have serious decisions to make.

Tarot is great - if you don't like the cards, just do it again!

I have spent a lot of money on tarot and palm readings, and every single time they spouted the same generalizations that would apply to most people. I am unconvinced.
Have you seen Derren Brown reading people?

It was a dream.

Don't look to these areas to find piece inside you.

I has a very short palm done in a pub and she said I would either have one child or loose one child. Well I am pregnant with child number 2.

Personally I would leave well alone.

I believe that this is a very harmful practice. As a Christian I believe that messages etc that tarot readers, palmists etc receive come from evil spirits. They lull you into a false sense of sercurity and then can cause great harm. I do not blame people for using these things as it is often in desperation. However through personal prayer and meditating on the word of God I can take great comfort. Many of these people claim to be Christian, bible believers etc but it stages clearly in the bible to stay away from these practices

If you think about it for 5 seconds you will realize that it's bollocks. Particularly palm reading - how on earth could the lines in your hand know anything at all about your future?

As long as you don't take it seriously it is fun. I like to read tarot cards and they often have things which people find really relevant but I think you see what you want. Agree with coffee that it is more a focus then an life/death answer thing.

I had my palm read about twelve years ago at the age of 38. I already had DD1 and had no intentions of having anymore dc.
The palmist told me I would have two dc. He also said he could see a third child in my life but the signs were very confusing and he wasn't sure what it meant.
He wrote his reading down. I didn't give it much thought stuck it in a drawer and forgot about it. I found it last year.
A year after the reading dc2 was born and two years ago we adopted dc3.

He also said I would receive good news about tests I had recently had - true

I had back troubles - true

I should be aware of someone with the name as they would cause me great sorrow - my dh is called but no sorrow yet.

I would move to Reading - No

I would holiday in the states - not happened yet.

Most of what he said was very generic and can easily be explained. I do wonder about the dc though.

Don't know what happened there. DHs name was inserted as but it hasn't worked. Hope you get the drift though. Grin

Um, OP, I got the impression that ohhappyday was being at least mildly sarcastic (If not, then please don't take that advice seriously as that post is, to use the terminology used on this thread, a crock of shite.)

Palm reading and tarot are really dependent on the person performing the reading. Doing your own tarot is brilliant, as is getting a reading if you don't get collared by someone who just does it for the money. My mum got caught out by a Romany in her colourful caravan, who spouted crap at her - a few years later she went to Glastonbury and got a pretty darn accurate and, more importantly, fun reading from one of the priestesses there.

If you don't believe, though, it's not really worth it because you'll second-guess everything. If you go in open-minded, it's fun and can be enlightening, but if not then you won't get anything out of it.

I've said this before, but:

My dad had a palmist tell him that he would not die in the country of his birth.

Well guess what: he did.

Pity he couldn't ask for his money back.

It's cold reading and nothing more. If you want to waste your money though that's your buisness but it is a waste.

I did a spot of palm reading once. For a summer fete thingamabob. I dressed as a stereotypical gypsy and people paid a pound for maybe 2mins worth of me making stuff up about them. Funny thing is my friend who was helping organise the thing said so many people came up to her with high praise for me and my "gift". We laughed! Gift of the gab is about all I've got. lol

I used to read palms (never charged for it) and was 'quite good'.
I never made silly predictions (you will have a 3 legged dog named Sally type stuff), but I did advise people to look after themselves, listen to their bodies, and have faith in their abilities.
I would study their hands, as well as the whole person. Everyone has a million clues to tell you what is going on, if you read them correctly. If you can acurately see how a person lives, you can predict what they will do, and how they will behave.
People give away information in how they walk, how they greet you, what they are wearing (especialy shoes!), the condition of their eyes, skin, hair and teeth, their breath, body shape and posture.
People don't need to be conned, they need to be paid attention, have someone listen, and notice them.
I stopped doing it because it was emotionally draining, and because I refused to make stuff up. Some people would keep coming back, hoping for different responces. It doesn't work that way Smile

learn to do your own palm reading and tarot if the area interests you .

There is loads of good material available to help you do this.

As for parting with cash, I feel most people charging money for this service are cold-readers or con merchants.

I think there are a few good ones but the chances of finding one is low
