DS is nearly 2, and everytime I tell someone his full name, they make a face :( Our families, friends, and now people we meet at playgroups and nursery.

It's a fairly unusual first name, but really common middle name, and for some reason everyone finds it fun to snigger at him. I'm starting to worry that he'll be bullied for it at school. DP says to ignore them, and that they are just jealous that his name stands out from the crowd, but I can't help being upset by it :( I'm thinking even about stopping using his first name altogether.

Sod them! It's your child, and his name is what it is! I wouldn't post it if I were you- people on here are mean about names too! My friend just called her boy a really unusual name, and to be honest I was unsure about it, but it's just him now, and I can't imagine him as anything else.

Can't really comment without knowing what the name is tbh but I understand if you don't want to post it.

My boys have very ordinary first names but double-barrelled surnames with an ordinary bit and a foreign bit.

YANBU to think people should mind their own business, but to be honest you should have given it more thought before naming him if it is bothering you so much.
Not sure there is anything you can do about it now except give him a nickname or call him by his middle name.

Pleeeeease tell us the name! I think it's better, if the faces are going to bother you so much, to start using the middle name now before he realizes people are making faces! Of course, they are sods for making that face in the first place, but they probably won't stop.

This is why I'm not keen on 'unique' names. Obviously don't know what your DS is called, may be something lovely, but I've had to bite my tonuge recently when introduced to several ex-schoolfriends' offspring, there are a few of them at the moment seem to be in competition with each other for the most ridiculous name. Maybe the 'unique' first name jibes with the common middle name? Did anyone pull faces when you first came up with the name? Can you imagine your child as a 35 year old lawyer having his name read out in court without people sniggering? I'm currently pregnant with my first and this is advice my MIL gave me!

Having said all that, it's too late now, maybe give him the option of using his middle name when he gets older if HE wants to?
