I did it for a while; with fairly serious joke stuff. It usually seems to be used frivolously.

I use it for business purposes

I half-heartedly signed up last year, but to be honest I find it unbearable. I don't want to update people - friends or otherwise - on what I am doing/thinking every 5 minytes, and I don't want to know that information about them.

I did but I can't be bothered doing it.

I can't be bothered with FB.

I think stuff, but can't possibly imagine people would want to read my every thought or need to know what i'm doing constantly.

Why would they?

It's boring.

Can see the point for business/self promotion though.

I use it for news stories and when watching TV progs. It's quite funny reading everyone's # comments for reality progs like Apprentice and X Factor.

my DB does it for his work (but then he works in an internet marketing agency, he founded it), and he has showed me how to

but i forgot the password and i'km not sure what email i used to register with. so i haven't bothered going back on after he showed me how.

i can't see the fuss tbh

oh, DH also has an account actually, he works in IT too though so not exactly surprising?

I subscribe to a couple of employment sites specific to my work and to some professional body-type ones also relevant to work.

Follow my friends who tweet updates with amusing things, political rants, pictures, music links. Get bored with the political rants quite quickly and hardly ever click through to the music links.

I can't be bothered tweeting much myself.

I use it mainly for reading people's comments or opinions on the news or TV programmes. I follow a couple of astronaughts who tweet the most amazing pics. And I follow Mumsnet of course!

I also use it to stalk the fit bloke from work

I'm on there, some of the people I follow are good fun. And it's sometimes interesting to get involved in conversations.

It's another form of virtual interaction that can be done without having to. Look presentable.

I love it.

Everytime I look I can't see the point-I haven't seen anything remotely interesting. I keep looking to try and work out what I am missing.

I used it when obsessing over olympic tickets, lots of people saying how much money had gone and what they had applied for. I started by following some famous people but I found that boring and I haven't tweeted very much myself. Haven't really got to grips with it but I haven't tried using it to communicate with people I know.

I have recently signed up, but don't post.

I'm not what you would normally call a 'celebrity watcher' but am finding it quite interesting having signed up to various authors/sports people' tweets.

I much prefer FB for friends though.

  • You need to follow interesting people (not necessarily famous people but people with similar interests)

  • I tweet and chat about about a mixture of personal stuff & opinions on current affairs or as discussed above about TV shows while watching

  • I like being able to talk directly to politicians or people in the news etc - I don't do it much, but you can - sometimes they even reply!

*If used well it can be a good marketing tool - lots of "mumpreneurs" apologies if you dislike the term use it and support one another

  • If you have a blog it's a good way of getting more people to read it

  • I used it as a news source - quite often you find stuff out on Twitter before anywhere else

  • It took me about six months to become addicted get into it so it does take time

Facebook I use to keep in touch with RL friends and family

Twitter I use to keep in touch with interesting people I don't know, though there are one or two people I know in real life on there too.

Twitter is vastly more interesting Hmm I think it's due to the platform rather than my family and friends though (mostly :))

I use Twitter a lot. I don't post, but I like to get my news and opinions instantly, rather than trawl news websites.

Oh nooo....

I'm really not that important.

Added to that...I kind of value my privacy and those of my loved ones.

I don't understand the need for some to divulge the minutest details of their lives. It becomes some sort of obsession...not healthy in the long run.

Follow local people, Tweet about local events and issues. That way you can start building up a following of local people. This then comes in handy for when you want local information also keeps you updated about local events which you might not hear about otherwise. Good people to follow to find other local people are your local town/parish councillors.

I find it useful for hearing about new products - also means you can sometimes get sent products for test/review purposes. Also useful for local events/news and for asking questions on a more national basis - for example asking for good places to stay around a certain area.

I tweet about a variety of things, often local things near me in West Surrey/East Berkshire - like the current road conditions on the A322 between Bagshot and Bracknell (following resurfacing gone wrong). Also about things Nanny related, such as information on employing a nanny and information for nannies.

Oh and I heard about the passengers walking on the railway lines near Woking station way before the media agencies started to report it. I also notified a local news editor about it via twitter and she then tweeted live from outside the station.
Breaking news you can hear first on Twitter, though you need to take things with a large pinch of salt - it's uncensored, unmonitored... so news stories may be real or not. As with everything you start to build up trustworthy sources.
