AIBU?

Someone refusing to sell to me on ebay

I won an item on ebay this morning and have received an email from the seller saying due to the amount of neutral and negative feedback I have given people they won't sell to me. Is this against ebay rules?

In the beginning I did give a lot of neutral feedback because I was new to the site and assumed you only gave positive if you were REALLY pleased with what you bought. I got a few nasty messages from people telling me to learn how to use the site and accusing me of cocking up their feedback on purpose and I started giving positive to everyone unless I was disapointed with what I bought but even then people were sending me messages saying to read the ads properly etc but it wasn't negative, just neutral.

I have given feedback 152 times and 108 of them are positive so it's not as if it's more neutral than positive.

AIBU to think this person should be forced to sell to me because I won the auction fair and square?

It is against the rules I think.

Daft of the seller really as now you have won it you can leave them (well deserved!) negative feedback for refusing to let you have it, which presumably was what they were hoping to avoid.

Have you contacted the seller and told them this?

No offence but you sound like a pain-in-the--arse-ebayer. A bit too trigger happy with the neutral feedbacks.

Someone cocked up my 100% feedback because they'd bought the wrong bloody item. Their fault, not mine but my feedback was cocked up whilst their's remained perfect.

But to be fair, if you won it, they have to sell you it. Just go easy on the crappy feedbacks.

It isn't about how dissapointed you are with the item, though, but wether the description was accurate. You can message Ebay and ask for it to be solved via their resolution process. TBH, people choose who to buy fron based on the rating system so i don't blame them, but i always read the feedback to see what went wrong for the buyer to get neutral feedback because you do get alot of people complaining about nothing.

I don't think it's against the rules to refuse to sell to someone if I was you I'd get on the eBay community board and see there

They can specify beforehand (eg no buyers with less that 10 feedback etc) I think, but not decide after the auction has been won that the winner cannot have it after all.

I think anyway.

I think your right queen I just looked you can specify beforehand but not afters. Once you have brought that item your are bound in a contract to buy it.

108 positive f/back left out of 152 suggests you have had a lot of trouble. What would lead you to leave less than positive feedback?

Don't think they can refuse to sell to you once you've won an item, but if I was the seller and you bid on my item, having seen your record of only 108 positives out of 152 feedbacks left, I'd cancel your bid. That IS VVVU!!! You don't leave neutral feedback unless the delivery took forever, the item was not as described, was in poor condition, dirty, etc. Being disappointed with an item is NOT a reason in itself to leave neutral or negative feedback! I buy and sell a lot on ebay, and your ratio of negatives/neutrals to positives indicates that you are either extremely unlucky in your purchases, or an arse!

I do not understand why you could not work out that you leave a 'positive' feedback for a 'positive' shopping experience, (ie. you were happy with the item).

I am not saying that the seller is right, but I can see where he/she is coming from.

don't blame them! another reason why the feedback rules on ebay are quack

I just opened a new account on eBay because people like you leave negative feedback. It's dropped my rate and then eBay stopped allowing me to list for free like this weekend etc. I got neg for there being dirt on a pair of wellies.
Oh and the size 5 shoes I sold not fitting the buyers size 5 feet.
I was baffled. People are crazy
Now worked out I just set up a new account and hey presto. Back to 100%.
eBay are too stupid to be true

are they using this as an excuse because they sell the item for as much money as they had hoped do you think?

You can complain to ebay but you can't force them to send the item to you. They can pretend to have posted it and refund you when it doesn't arrive.

Can you message them and explain you made the neutral feedback when you were new to ebay and didn't understand how the feedback system worked.

To be fair OP, I probably wouldn't sell to you either, that was a great deal of poor feedback you left. Maybe start again with a new account?

I think that a lot of people are being harsh on the op. If you are new to e bay you probably do not understand that you only leave negative feedback if have had a bad experience with that seller, and even then you contact the seller first, and if they are still unhelpful then you leave negative feedback. I only understood the rules as dh is a experienced e bayer and told me everything I need to know, but if you don't have someone to tell you, how are you supposed to know Hmm

i would have thought the sellers on the end of the bad feedback would have told her! really it's not that hard to understand.

Report
pigletmania · 19/06/2011 18:59

Mabey someone should have pointed out to her. Ive been left one neutural feedback think this person was new, and expected a brand new Radley bag, the one I sold was a bit worn. I did give an accurate information in my listing, and detailed pictures of the bag, with photos of worn bits. And in my invited people to ask me questions if they still were not sure.

I would feel cautious too! That's a hell of a lot of neutral feedback you've given

If they refuse to sell to you, you can still leave negative feedback though!!

In fact you'd be more likely to, having been told that you can't buy the item.

Sounds like the seller is a tad odd and it's hardly your fault if you didn't quite get the feedback system and how it works.

Neg them for refusing to sell, they may get a good laugh at the irony!

I would probably sell it to you but I would wish that you hadn't bought it!
You ought to be clear what neutral feedback means before you start. I get fed up with people not knowing the meaning of dispatch. I dispatch super fast, but I send second class-clearly stated-and it takes time (especially with Christmas post)

blimey don't encourage her to leave any more bad feedback! it will make you look like a loon (even more than you do now) Wink

i'd start a new account myself

I wouldn't sell to you either tbh I think that a 1/3 of the feeedback you give being neg or neutral makes you look like a PITA (still bitter about my one neg feedback)
