First thing you need to do is another test when you are not tiddly.
Then think about your feelings. It sounds like you consider this to be bad news?
You need to absorb the news and consider it. And tonight may not be the best time to do that what with you having had a bit of alcohol.
Get some sleep and do another test to be sure - if you are a bit drunk it may be wrong result/mistake. But tests have moved on a lot since my day.
When you have done a second test, take it from there.

FWIW I felt this way when I found out I was pg, I had been with dp for 3 months, and for a myriad of reasons it was a really bad time - but it all worked out and me, dp and dd are very happy. I told my mum first as I was too scared to tell dp, though actually in hindsight I don't know why, as he was actually brilliant when I told him. Good luck, hope it all goes well.

False positives (rather than false negatives) are very rare indeed (unless you're so drunk you are seeing an extra line in the little box). Either way, get some sleep and deal with it again tomorrow.

Yes I second that. False negatives sometimes occur, especially early on, as there is not enough HCG hormone for it to show up. However if it is a positive test, it means that there is in fact some hormone there to be detected, and this hormone is only present if you're pregnant, so therefore you must be pg IYSWIM?

Ah, OK chiclet I'm going on my experience from 25 years ago when tests were not nearly as sensitive presumably!
Was just wondering if alcohol could affect the result chemically and/or being tiddly and not following instructions properly.

You are right Salmo in that being pissed is never a good time to take a test. I agree with you whole-heartedly on that one. A blue line (if it's really there) will really be there unless you are on a couple of certain types of hormone based drugs (both of which are rare to be on) or unless you're so drunk, you're seeing it regardless. If one is pissed, who knows!
