AIBU?

To think it's okay to use the dragon dictation app for a school project?

dd, year 5, has done all the research for this chapter (has already handwritten other chapters, teacher wants a mixture of typed and handwritten) and has done rough notes. All it needs is typing up. Would it be wrong to use the app where you can speak the worse and voice recognition software writes it?

If you used the app to write this message ("speak the worse") then yes, YABU because it doesn't work very well...

That's blooming autocorrect... And of course on a project I'd make sure she reads it through very carefully for any mistakes!

Dh and I tested the app last night and it seems to be very accurate.

It depends why you want her to use it?
If she can't be arsed to handwrite it then no
if she has SN and is using it in that way then obviously yes

(My ds (due to SN uses an Alphasmart to write up his work)

She is fine to handwrite and was all prepared to do it for the whole project but then the teacher specifically asked to have some of the project typed. So it would be between physically typing up notes slowly or speaking them into the phone.

In that case from a moral standpoint I think she should do as the teacher asked (ie part handwrite/part type).Otherwise shes not getting the "benefit" of typing manually.

But if it were me on a project I'd use the AP

The teacher has asked her to type, so she needs to type it manually. She may be slow at the moment, but she'll never get faster if she doesn't practise.

Ask why the teacher wanted it typed? If it is because it's easier for her/him to read and mark, it doesn't matter how it's done. Otherwise, it needs to be typed as it will boost her skills (from a practical standpoint, being able to touch fast/accurately is a much more useful skill than Dragon, unfortunately, because Dragon still is not that good ... though a lifesaver if you have certain SN, I know).
