AIBU?

To think when parents are out with their kids it's likely to be for a treat?

And therefore, if they are letting their kids have less than perfectly healthy food/drinks whilst out it's not a reflection of their normal diet?

YANBU! I think...

Depends on where 'out' is.

Do you mean out for a day at the zoo or something...or out shopping?

Either way, I don't give a shiny shite what other parents feed their kids.

YANBU. Our children do eat things when we're out that we'd never let them eat/drink at home.

Presumably, yes.

I'd say it is a reflection of their normal diet. Regardless of whether i'm out or home my DCs always get what i perceive to be healthy food, i think if i gave them sweets etc while out then forbid it at home i'd be opening up a can of worms. I think it very much depends on the ages of the DCs.

I'd probably say so, unless it's every morning here outside the spar shop and the DC of 5/6 YO are chomping on crisps and choc on their way to school.

Are you talking about another thread?

Yanbu, I think! My dc had pizza and ice crem for lunch yesterday while out. It was a treat lunch and may only happen once a month.
They had porridge and fruit for breakfast and cottage pie with broccoli, peas and sweetcorn for tea so it doesn't bother me if random strangers think I feed my dc crap.
I know I don't give it to them every day.

I feed mine only crap at home (lard soaked bread, deep fried rice krispies and the like) but pretend to be healthy when we're out, just for a treat for them you understand.

You can never be sure when there's some judgy fucker ready to run off to MN about it Wink

I see that all the time...little kids walking to school with their parents and munching on chocolate/drinking fizzy drinks.

Also, the chip shop seems to be crammed with the same secondary school kids just after 3pm every day.

Not trying to AIBU by stealth, but thread was prompted by going to Ikea this weekend, which is probably not a treat to most people but we like it!

At the cafe I offered (toddler) DD a choice of juice drinks to have instead of water. She has poo/nappy rash issues and is only allowed 2/3 toddler portions of fruit per day and hasn't had any fruit juice at all in four months.

The woman behind me started whining about how fruit juice is awful and rots teeth and I didn't really click that she was talking about us until her husband told her to shut up!

Felt that he had said it for me, so didn't say anything, and I'm not bothered really because a random woman doesn't know anything about us. But it reminds me off all the threads on MN where people see a tiny snapshot of how someone deals with a crying toddler at the shops, or eating crisps in their pushchair and assumes that this is how the parents always behave...

But really, would you honestly assume that just because someone gives there child juice outside of the house - or even sweets or fizzy drinks, that this is what they always do?

It's like seeing a family in McDonald's for dinner and assuming the eat their every day!

If you see the same kids everyday eating the same rubbish it is fair enough to judge though IMO.

What are you on about?

I'll try and answer...
...umm no, it's not a treat to go out for us, it's life Hmm
...umm, if you're giving your kids 'treat food' doesn't it just mean you've decided at that point to give them that as a treat (or normal diet?) and as you are the parents that's a decision you can make and it's really nobody elses business?

I used to love a sneaky bag of chips after school & then go home & eat my dinner. Never did me any harm.

It's always best to judge others and shout at them really loudly when they make bad choices. Sometimes you have to go so far as to snatch the poison food away and bin it.

I know.

It's a shocking crime.

I'm actually oddly impressed that I managed to be judged over it, but hey!

Bohica it was sneaky jam donuts for me Grin

I can honestly say none of my 3 kids will touch water...unless they've actually been sick.

They love their juice and have lovely teeth...as do I and I don't drink water either.

yanbu
the dds are allowed free choices when we're out, and find it easy to understand that the rules are different at home.

Do people really only allow their children to eat certain foods outside of the house?

That would just give the children the impression that home cooked food was some kind of punishment to be endured on the promise of a monthly McFlurry or whatever - very odd imo.

If anyone commented on what my DCs were eating I would be sure to give them my opinion on their judginess whether they wanted it or not but actually I don't care in the slightest what they think, why would I?

Hully, I agree, it is our duty as the mothers of this once great nation. Pushing a person out of your fanjo abolutely gives you carte blanche to dictate what everyone else eats. It is for their own good.

Absolutely agree, OP. The only place mine ever gets ice cream is the zoo - don't know why, except I associate the two things - but there's about eleventy billion other people at the zoo at the same time, watching.

I do think someone should invent tetra boxes of water/plain milk with straws, though, that's the only reason I always get juice when we're out for a treat day.
