sit down (or lie down, or go for a walk or something) and talk to each other with no distractions from the tv/computer/children/work?

most nights, when we go to bed, we attempt to have at least a 5 minute round up of the day

do meal times as just the two of us count (at the dinner table, no radio/tv on)?

Report
emkana · 13/06/2011 09:37

Yes of course meals count

Most evening we go for a walk together after dinner. Our children are late teens so rarely elect to join us!

Saturday and Sunday mornings we stay in bed for 2 to 3 hours (no small kids).

Evenings - probably two or three per week when we sit and chat (rarely watch tv)

We also schedule 3 weekends and one week away by ourselves per year.

then Mon-Thurs (kids eat earlier than us - DH finishes off our tea whilst I get bedtime sorted, or vice versa).

we also have the occasional Saturday when GPs visit/SIL/other relatives take them out for the day, although that's only every couple of months.

If I'm lucky I also get a lift in from DH to work, which is just the two of us, but that might not count as it does involve the distraction of driving for 45mins.

We work together all day so we talk a lot to each other and we sometimes we go out for a meal in a restaurant at lunch time just to get away from TV, computers, etc.

Its nice.

Generally, every day... but, we only have one DC (in bed at 8) and no TV, so our evenings are pretty laidback. I'm enjoying it while it lasts!

We have dinner as a family, then DH and I sit and chat for a bit while DCs watch tv or play. It's been part of the routine so long that even though DCs are 5 and 3, they rarely interrupt...they know it's 'our' time(and their time, too, really).

Never. I try my best to avoid him at the moment as he specialities at the moment are moaning, insulting me blatantly, insulting me underhandedly or thinking up new terminal illnesses that he is dying of. I did at one point get to start taking anti depressants, but he now believes he no longer needs them, no what he needs is some one to sort out his kidney failure and bowel cancer Hmm

All the time. When dd is in bed, over a meal once dd is finished, while dd is bathing, during the weekend while dd is with her grandma and grandad, on weekdays if dh has a day off and dd is at preschool, while working in the garden together etc.

Most days, sometimes several times a day.

Every weekday morning, DH bring us a cup of tea in bed and we have a chat together, although I am usually BFing DC3 at the time but he is busy feeding therefore not disrupting us.
Usually when DH gets in from work I am in the kitchen, DC are occupied. DH and I have a quick cuddle and a chat.
On Wednesdays the older two DC go to in laws for tea so DH and I have a late dinner when all DC are in bed, however at the moment this is in front of the Apprentice, we do chat about how annoying the contestants are though!
Usually every night in bed but it's whispers so we don't wake DC3.
There are other times too but not so regularly.

we have the whole weekend to ourselves so we spend most of it together sometimes spending the whole day in bed just chatting, cuddling, shagging. but also during the week we spend the evenings once the kids are in bed just talking about not a lot mostly but its lovely.

Occasionally. It never strikes me as a priority, really. Should it?

Dunno mother inferior. We don't really and I just miss the closeness? Doesn't other dh, and that makes it a bone of contention.

At least once a week, but our LO isnt here yet and we have the luxury to do so.

When we do it is very therapeutic, we just lie in bed together and relax or go for a walk and a meal which is fun.

It is amazing the effect it has on bringing us closer, especially if one of us is stressed or tense.

Mmm, we've been married for 20 years this year and have had our ups and downs but have always had the view that the marriage takes priority over everything else, inc. child rearing. This has sometimes not mattered in the easy times, but in the hard times when ds1 was alive (v. serious disability - like Riven and D Cameron's children), we really had to make the effort to get away even if only for lunch together to recharge the relationship batteries.

Never. Had two minutes this morning and it did occur to me that I couldn't remember when we'd last sat at a table together without the kids in attendance.

Every day, probably too much to be honest, a couple of hours a night with a cider in the bed. I go off on a tangent a bit when I start talking and thats why I am always tired for work.

I talk a lot in life in general though its my favourite activity Grin. I dont think I could quit talking if I tried and thats why I mumsnet to fill in the gaps between RL conversations cause I hate silence.
