I've been incensed by the price of Heinz Baked Beans for a long time now. Hasn't stopped me buying them, but I try to stock up when they have special offers on.
FWIW, I'm incensed by the price of lots of food now. Seems there's very little which can be bought for under £1 anymore.

Heinz beans are one of the only branded products I think are worth the extra, (the others being Kellogs cornflakes and Roberts bread)

I don't like Heinz beans but I do like beans. They do them in fridge-packs now for lazy people who don't have any plastic boxes / tupperware-type things in their kitchen cupboards. That'll help when you're on a strict budget

Roberts is made in Cheshire I think. Much nicer and keeps fresher than Warburtons or Hovis. Far superior to supermarket bread

Dont like heinz beans, always used to buy branded stuff but now i buy shops own discount range and i actually prefer them, they dont have that twang that heinz beans have, its the same for ketchup - we've simply been brainwashed into thinking they are the best is all

Buy Sainsbury Basics or Tesco Value - they need cooking for longer (i.e. not just re-heating) but they're just as good and they are lower in calories.

Have you tried the store's own brand jazzed up with a few glugs of worcestershire sauce or chilli powder? Could even use HP/brown sauce if you like. My kids love it and keep pestering me for more.

We rarely eat baked beans chez Izzy, but when the urge strikes I buy Branston as we prefer the taste - my last purchase was a special offer, 4 tins for £2.

Haven't seen Roberts bread on my local supermarket shelves (in London), but when buying packaged sliced white bread for sandwiches I'll always pay extra for Warburtons.

I'd recently read about a nutritional survey done on beaked beans and other branded and own brand products and Tesco Value baked beans (I'm nearly sure) came out tops for the least salt and sugar per tin than other tested brands.

I used to but own brand value ones when a student but dh eventually rebelled and I have to admit they were pouse.

Branston do seem to have more of a kick to them but perhaps that's because I subliminally associate them with the pickle.
