MNHQ have commented on this thread

AIBU?

to wonder when MNHQ introduced the policy to delete threads simply because people are disagreeing?

I was just on a thread.
There was a disagreement over whether or not something was racist/offensive.

I could see no personal attacks, there was nothing that breached the talk guidelines.
I have no idea why the thread has been deleted.

So i can only assume it was because there was a disagreement on it.

Is this a new policy? Will we be seeing the vast majority of all threads being deleted now then?

I was just trying to post on that thread when it poofed. Won't this go too, because it's a thread about a thread (that was the reasoning yesterday I think)?

was this the thread about a thread about a thread about a thread???
I am SO gutted that I was forced to socalise with real people last night and missed all the goings on. Yesterday was hilarious on here.

Possibly it was because posts from a deleted thread were being quoted? Cant think of any other reason.

I'll say it again... MN is bonkers at the moment. dont know whats going on, but I dont like it.

It got deleted because 700 cackling witches wouldn't stop flying around like lunatics on broomsticks attacking one person. It was a bloody lynch mob! Amazing how it escalated...

no. there were no posts from deleted threads.

I missed whatever happened yesterday.
If the reason given is that it was a thread about a thread then half of Mn needs deleting.

MN is here to make parents life easier..(blah blah).. we didn't feel the thread in question was helping anything..(blah).. so we deleted it (blah)

I think there were a few 'personal attack' type comments on there...plus it was a thread about a thread about a thread

The reason given from MNHQ was that it was mostly about one particular poster rather then a general discussion on the topic.

Can I have a brief precis of what happened in the end? [nosey emoticon]

I didn't see any personal attacks.

I was involved in a discussion about a different thread. People started the thread by asking about another, i assume now deleted thread.

Someone linked to a thread that was related in some way to the one that was deleted. Myself and a few others posted that we thought there was some thinly veiled racism on that thread. others felt that there was no racism and in fact was harmless fun.

Nothing personal, just opinion.

unless i missed something

Was also in the middle of posting when it went so will try again.

I wanted to disagree with posters who think that beesimo struggles to fight her corner. On the threads I've seen, she has shown no difficulty in getting her point across and I think, although her posting style is individual she is very articulate.

The problems have arisen here because if one person says that their culture is perfect and other people's is not, then this invites others to identify the flaws in that particular statement. Like it or not people have seen traveller girls forced to give up their education/jobs/freedom on TV, unless you think channel 4 is lying and those girls were not real.

Some comments yesterday were maybe cruel, but then so were beesimo's. If you can't take it, don't dish it out.

I was just sitting down with my cuppa to read it all and whoosh. Gone. Pah.

And I was on all the threads from start to finish yesterday.

Grump.

OK, this is not tongue in cheek. Some of the disagreement on the most recently deleted post was of the "witches on a broomstick" ilk. I am a witch. I do not ride a broomstick nor do I shout religious persecution when someone suggests that witches do so or are, from the context of the comment above, bullies or nasty in any way. That would clearly be ridiculous.

What the he'll is the point of the thread about a thread rule anyway? Bloody stupid

I think BoF was being accused of being a racist and was deeply offended by that.

Someone else was labelled 'a really nasty piece of work'

Comments were made about mental illness 'don't forgot to take your pills', 'You seeing things that aren't there', 'your insane' that someone else felt were offensive as they had suffered mental illness in the past

I think any of those were a bit 'attacky' if you will...

Hiya,

We nixed it because lots of the posts were about one particular poster. And the threads about threads were deleted for the same reason.

Delete for disagreement? You're right, most half of MN would disappear, so that definitely wasn't the reason.

If you can't take it, don't dish it out. - if who can't take it? Beesimo? She left the thread very early on yesterday, that thread was just people piling on to have a dig at travellers with a few of us pointing out how racist some posters were being. Then Hully et all took it on another tangent, I had to go out at that point.

This will be deleted too now.

Report
Mamaz0n · 11/06/2011 18:04

sarah - it is there so that rather than start a seperate thread in order to dig someone about a particular point, you raise it on the initial thread and challenge and be challenged there and then.

Though the thread linked to on the one that was just deleted for no obvious reason is full, so it couldn't have been added to and challenged.

Does a post need to fall in to a category of legally protected minorities for it to be considered abusive?

Some of the comments made towards that woman were fecking vile, don't try and get out of it by saying "it wasn't racist".

Think the thread was more likely to have been pulled because of the accusations of bullying. Because that never happens on mn.Oh no never, never, neverHmm. I mean a group of people who refer to themselves as "royalty" gang up on one poster and basically take over the thread but no thats not bullying. Is it?-waits for said royalty to roll up and tell me Im wrong and its all so said ironically>

I reported a thread earler as it was started with the sole intention of attacking a poster.

I don't think that is the thread that you are referring to, but I suspect it is linked to it.
