We'll be mortgaged to the hilt, the garden's tiny, but I LOVE IT.

They do love their wooden flooring, don't they?
It's lovely but I'm aghast at the price. Is that standard for the area?

It is lovely. Do you need a big garden though?

It is showing as sold -have you made an offer?Grin

Thats not wooden flooring, thats varnished floorboards, they are the nuts, really like it, not keen on the clutter in the kitchen though. Or the brown walls.

that would be about £200,000 cheaper around here.

i do like it though.

Well we saw a lot for about £30,000 less in the area that needed a lot of work. It Is a hell of a lot I agree. It's a lovely area though, green, safe, good links into town, nice little shops, conservation area with lovely walks along the river....

Presumably they wouldn't be leaving any clutter in the kitchen, FC?

scurryfunge - we;ve made an offer, been accepted, really worried now about a lifetime of mortgage slavery......(our previous mortgage is a fraction of the one we'll be getting)

It is very nice have you made the offer ?

scurryfunge · 10/06/2011 22:01

If you love it and it is in the perfect area, it seems ideal. Hope the sale goes smoothly.

That is one tiny garden.
It's nice though.
Have you considered if you could afford it if mortgage rates go up?

Report
MsPopples · 10/06/2011 22:03

Yes thisisyesterday - the garden is the downside, definitely, but there are two big parks and a green 5mins away.

Thanks Scurryfunge x

its lovely and its cheap for London - ignore anyone who lives outside zone 5 as they simply have no concept of London house prices and say things like that'd be 100000 cheaper here. Yup, thats cos you don't live in one of the best cities in the world. Being here is worth the extra cost.

so there Wink

Beamur - yes we can get a fixed rate - but still a bit punishing. I am a bit worried about taking on so much debt - DH is a lot more risk averse than me.

I guess if it ticks all the boxes for you (and it sounds like it does) - would you kick yourself if you let it go...?

Its fabulous, I'd love to live in London...aaah to dream...but I live in the west of Ireland, wet and windy. Your new house is gorgeous, well done :)

Pam - I'd love to live in west Ireland - one of my favorite places.

The main things for me that well outweigh garden size are: safety of the neighbourhood, good nearby public transport links, saleability, and off road parking for at least one car. I do believe in trusting your instincts so go for it if you like it.
Just be really sure you can afford the extra mortgage.

I can't believe the price for the size of it! You can buy a 4 bed detatched for £250,000 where we are (40 min drive to London)

It's very nice when you don't look at the price Smile

That's really nice. Will you ask them who did their side return/extension and loft conversion and PM me? Please?

Moved out of London in November and bought a detached bungalow with a massive garden for £100,000 less than my London flat. My commute into town is still good (30 mins to Cannon St) and the massive garden means my daughter always has something to do (and my partner plants pretty flowers and vegetables). Think about your needs for the next 3-5 years. We are going to use spare cash to convert it into a nice house.

not for me, london or the house. Been there done that. & believe it or not some of us pay a lot for houses outside of the capital - it's not all 95k and dreaming of the big city...
