It just shows a poor vocabulary

Habit rather than poor vocabulary I think.

Well, in the habit of not improving their poor vocabulary, I grant you

I swear all the time, but I tell my DCs that people who swear are stupid because they aren't clever enough to use the English language properly. Sad

I quite like swearing actually.

I think if you drop a pan full of pasta sauce on the floor the only words to use are 'you fucking bastard pan'

The trouble is that people laugh at you when you politely ask them not to use profane language. It's become the norm.

yanbu

Swearing is offensive and shows a lack of manners imo.

YANBU OP.

Why can't people just speak kindly to each other.

And if you haven't got anything nice to say, don't say anything.

I love swearing, but its all about context and company.

I wouldn't swear around children or in a public place (shop, cafe etc). I like a good fuckingbastardwankershithead in the privacy of my own home and once the kids are in bed, though Wink. people who shout 'sugar!' when they stub their toe are arseholes, in my opinion Grin

BitOfFun - that was hurtful and unnecessary. I have filters for that sort of thing but you seem to have bypassed them.

Darn Getorf.

You were too early.

[grr]

Can I add "nice" to the Unnecessarilist?

KarmaZBitch · 05/06/2011 21:43

OK, I have to say it, Mum2aLoon... 'Fucking bastard' can stay, but 'Hugz' should definitely be outlawed.

It's for your own good, Hully. I mean it with kindness.

Have I missed a trend?

I rememebr when it was standard practise to wash a mouth out with soap. That stopped the filth.

O 1 2 1 Fuck off an do one

I only know this phrase after the community support officer brought the 7 year old home for saying it to him after he told her not to draw a hopscotch on the path on Friday. Nice

As hully says mouth and soap sprung to mind

Agree with you OP. IMO swearing is vulgar and actually not especially funny or shocking

Listen to Joni, she speaks sense.

Even if she believes sledding to be childish. Sad

We used to have a Team manager in a Call center who after work would swear like a trooper non-stop but during the day would be extremely polite and articulate, almost 'plummy' accent.

Don't know how she managed to not slip in an F* word here and there by mistake!

YANBU

Karma - please explain why you love swearing ? - genuninely interested.

I hate swearing, I rarely swear and find it very offensive if other people swear. I avoid the threads on mumsnet where people swear and think it is 'funny' - I just don't get it and I really don't understand why people swear yet also think it is inappropriate for children to swear - so why is it 'clever' to use swear words yourself? Confused
