Thanks Shirley - but this one is real homebody and has not been absent this long ever (2 days nearly). I think I just want to know what happened to him - not found a body, have checked hedgerows byt he park where he roams.

Clinging on to hope that someone thought he was a stray and adopted him.

He doesn't have a collar, and is VERY friendly - hoping someone accidentally stole him thinking he was stray?

Most gorgeous cat ever - so pretty and friendly. He is micro chipped, but you'd have to take him to the vet to know wouldn't you?

I hate the thought of him being hit, and then crawling into a bush to die, wanting to come home. May be over thinking!

I've never owned a cat, but my brother does, and his once went missing for 4 months (yes, months) - turns out that someone had hit it with the car, taken it to the vet for treatment (no microchip thing on it) the other side of the city, and it was only by the cat coming home (eventually) to my DB with a brand new collar and telephone number on it that he found out what happened. but she did come home eventually.

good luck with the missing posters - you might want to put an ad on gumtree and ask local shop keepers in the area to put one of your posters up in the window too? (i'm not sure anyone would say no to that?)

(hug). My cat went missing for a week and came back. He was a homebody too. Is your cat spayed? If not there could be a female cat in heat somewhere in the area and his hormones have taken over.
Re the microchip - phone the police and the local RSPCA too as well as the vet. But do do it - that's what microchips are for.
Hope he comes home soon.

Thanks - I've put posters up in the village on lamp posts and in the shop and my class room window. Hope he comes home but trying to be realistic. I know it's only a cat and I need to get perspective, but I DO miss him!

Make sure you post messages through all the doors locally. Ask them to check sheds, garages and outbuildings. Our friends cat got shut in a neighbours shed and "next door" found a kitten in their garage - both were safely returned home.

One of ours went missing for aaaggges (a couple of weeks DH reckons (I think I've blotted it out of my mind)) and she never goes out that long.

I was crying and thinking that was the last we'd seen of her, she's a bit feral so I knew she'd not gone to someone elses house.

She strolled back in as though nothing had happened, thin, but none the worse for it.

Who knows where the bugger had been?

Oh you poor thing. Keeping everything crossed for you. Yes - definitely post notes through doors; we did so when this happened to us a few years ago and our neighbours were great and checked sheds, garages etc.

They have good advice. Three years ago our boy - a gentle housecat - starting behaving oddly and staying outside. He came from feral stock and we think that the call of the wild just was too much for him to resist. He didn't come back and there are days when if I feel low, I still think about him.

Your cat may yet return. I spoke to some amazing people along the way while looking for my cat - one elderly man who lost his beloved cat Louis and turned up the planet looking for him. Finally the cat just rolled up, six months after he had disappeared.

Spread the word. Local papers have missing pet sections too. Post up in your local shops....

Good luck. When I hear one come home I have a little cry - because I'm pleased but because my boy is possibly still out there..

Definitely go around your neighbours, and around you, behind etc. asking them to check garages, sheds, etc, the house next door was for sale not too long ago, one of mine went missing for 4 days, finally saw him in the window of the house for sale, he had wondered in after the estate agent, and got locked in. Another had gone into a garage, and got locked in there (diff. cat!) and it took me 2 days to track him down, both neutered males, but nosy and friendly buggers!

I hope you find your wee cat. Give every vet in the local area a call to report him as lost. People tend to bring cats to a vet they know as opposed to the nearest one.

Also ring local Cats Protection/shelters just in case. Our local radio station also reports lost pets so that may be worth a try?
