AIBU?

to just buy a new dishwasher

our 7 year old dishwasher has started leaving scum on glasses, and not cleaning the dirtier plates etc. Infact I have for the last fortnight been washing by hand instead of having to re wash items out of the dishwasher. I have found a website that gives a full break down of what to take out and wash etc, and if that doesnt work then its obviously cronked, (it looks like a few hours work)

So would you take the money saving option ands take the thing apart, or would you just go buy a new dishwasher?

I have hunted locally and there doesnt appear to me a dishwasher repair man.

Have you taken it apart and cleaned all the filters, sprinklers etc? My dishwasher sometimes leaves brown dots on the crockery. All it needs is a good clean out and hotwash with soda crystals and its fine again.

7 years doesn't seem too bad in terms of the 'life' of an appliance (although I suppose it depends on how much its been used) so I'd say its had a reasonable innings.

I don't think I'd trust myself to take it apart - I'd probably be left with 100 parts over the kitchen floor and no idea how to get them back together!

I'd go for new, but not an Indesit!

even a brand new dishwasher needs to have its filters cleaned regularly.

i would clean out the filter, and run it on empty with a tbalet in it. if that doesnt work, then run it with one of those bottles for cleaning the dishwasher with. i think they are about 1.50 a pop. also, dont overload the dishwasher. make sure there is enough space for water to run through. much simpler than washing by hand.

Have you checked that it has dishwasher salt in it? If it has then get one of the dishwasher cleaner bottles, bung it in on empty and it should be as good as new.

I have ran it on the hottest cycle (infact do that every other day) with no items in, purchased a cleaner and used that - weekly, added salt and rinse aid, all extra TLC, since it started playing up a few weeks ago, I have taken out the easily accesible parts and washed them all, now its the hard stuff! i think its a tools job, side and top off etc.

I want to buy a new one but my husband wondered if there was a break down of what else he could take out, and no doubt leave on the floor for a couple of days!!

I think Im going to lie to him and say , its knackered!!

thanks
xx

Have you checked that the holes in the rotary arms are all clear? If not then just use a sharp knife to unblock them.
