AIBU to think NM mods are nothing more than bullies?

We are a large foster family. Living here at the moment are myself, OH, two daughters, one teen garandaughter and 2 teenage FC. We have today been kicked off NM because there is more than one username connected to our laptop.

I have e mailed and asked them if the NM rules state that only one person per household are allowed to have a NM membership. I have explained that there are 6 people in this house that use NM and that with each teen FC placed there may be another member logging in. They have not replied.

I have also told them that we are members of MN - a forum where we are all welcome to post.

It sounds stupid.
But not sure about bullying.

Don't see what you are trying to achieve by posting here about it Confused

Is it in their policy or t&c perhaps when you join up?
Never been over there so don't know sorry.

Gillybean I asked them if this was the case but they have not bothered to reply. I usually use MN anyway but the 3 teens are only allowed on NM as I feel the swear filter makes it more suitable - bearing in mind two of them are under 16.

When did you e-mail?
I'd give them til after the weekend to reply.

(They must be quite young on Netmums then).

Don't know about bullying, but it certainly seems a bit unfair. Most sites let you have one account per email address. It's a bit short sighted to assume that in large families there won't be multiple people wanting their own accounts on things! Oh well - I'd consider it their loss if I were you!

I have 3 netmums accounts. I signed up for local information, and had a few goes at finding the right area section. Now every time they send out mass emails, I get 3. And I never use it anyway.

Is there no-where else that the teens would enjoy more? are they parents?

Sadly only netmoms can only answer that question for you. I used to use them but it was way to fluffy for me

Why on earth would teenagers want to be on Netmums anyway, assuming they aren't all tenage parents that is Confused

Cats. One has a toddler and enjoys the local meet ups and toddler boards. One of the FC is expecting - hence the reason she has come in to care.

Do you know of any other forums suitable for them?

LisaD I am posting on here as I know lots of MNetters use NM as well. As I cannot access NM anymore I just thought I would ask here. Maybe I could have asked "Has anyone else been kicked off NM for having more than account".

Sounds like shortsightedness but not bullying. Not sure why teens want to be on NM or MN in the first place - don't they have FB? Grin

Was this an attempt to start a 'MN hates NM' thread? Cos it's not really kicking off, is it? Wink

Oh ok, didn't realise they were young mums.

I thought ywbu until I saw that the FC have valid reasons in their own right for joining NM. I think it's great to put young mums in touch with a forum like that. I assume NM think you were trying to hide identity or something - if you explain it to them (and give them time to reply!) surely they will sort it.

I expect the problem is that it's quite common for trolling/fake accounts to be about young parents in difficult circumstances. So from there end it looks extremely suspicious.

If there is anyway you can get in touch with the netmums HQ (I have no idea how you would do this but there must be some info on the site) and prove that you really do have two young mums in the house that would probably solve the issue.

I expect you would have to ask the other members in your house and their social workers if they thought that would be okay with regard to sharing their private information.

Not bullying but stooopid.

Some of the mods appear to panic when challenged. They are not particularly 'professional' and tend to take things personally. That might me why you havent had a reply.

I expect its to stop trolls and spam but its daft if it prevents multi-parent households using NM.

Mind you I wouldnt want any kid of mine getting their advice from NM. I have seen incredibly dangerous stuff on their go unchallenged and unmodded.

Its to stop trolling. I think its a good idea.

Everyone in your household OP could have their own free hotmail email address (or gmail etc etc) and that was it's clear that they are individuals. If you explain that to NM, it might help out, and also that you have one laptop?ISP because that's the resources in your household.

I think that NM are guarding against mischief makers. It's sadly common on all talkboards and blog sites these days.

MN have banned posters for having more than one user name from an ISP, so they are not any different from NM.

Report
SecretNutellaFix · 05/06/2011 16:01

so they could therefore ban everyone who might use a public computer to visit the site?

They are being idiotic.
