AIBU?

To wish people would stop asking which parent dd1 gets her IQ from

DD1 is a clever little thing, has a real head for numbers and has a massive IQ. She tells people facts and number stuff, and they always ask where she gets her cleverness from, me or dh??
Cant it be just because she is? And seriously do they think I will answer that?

I think that you are just going to have to grin and bare it, or say just that she is they way she is cause she was born that way Grin however some part of it is down to genetics and theres no escaping it.

I get asked this all the time about my children, one just finished his Maths degree, another starting on his this year. It's do they get their Maths ability from their mother

Thing is, they do!

And be grateful?

Of course you should reply "she must've got her father's brains, I still have mine y'see".

Easy - just reply "oh she gets her brains from my husband. I kept all mine. " :)

I would say me of course and smile - even if she didn't.

My FIL asked me that about dd - more than once. The last time I replied "Well, it isn't from your side of the family is it?". He hasn't asked since Grin

My mil, who credits me with no brains/talent at all, insists that because my dd plays the recorder she gets her musical side from dh's sister Hmm (who happens to play the guitar) I play the flute and clarinet, she just doesn't know about it.

Don't worry as insults go that's tame. When ds was 2 y o I'd take him to the local leisure centre for a toddlers playtime. Being interested in numbers he would read the gymnastic position posters around the walls embarrassingly loudly.

One week another child's grandmother asked "Is your husband clever?". Shock

How I didn't keel over from swallowing my own tongue I do not know!Grin

LOL at lazarusb - good answer! Grin

lisad - it's a stupid thing for people to ask but just let it go and tell them that of course it's from both of you.
