I know many people complain about public transport services, especially buses, but the service in my area is wonderful and the drivers are brilliant. They are friendly, helpful and genuinely care about the job in hand and this is not some little country village, it's tough inner-city where this thing doesn't come regularly.

I emailed the bus company to let them know what a great job they were doing, and how well trained the staff are etc, etc and it's been months now and no reply. AIBU just to expect a reply just to say 'thanks, we've got your email?'

Well you would expect a reply if it was a complaint and I dont think it is U to expect an acknowledgement atleast.

The problem is they don't have a compliments department the way they do a complaints department, so there's no one tasked to respond. You should complain to them about the lack of response so they can allocate your communication to someone trained in doublespeak and avoidance customer service. Grin

Seriously, it's great that they have good bus drivers. Maybe they concentrate more on that than their back office operations.

I run a bus company and we probably wouldn't have replied, but we would have printed it out and put it in the staff room.

I sent a compliment about a young chap in my local Tesco who went above and beyond helping me. I didn't know who to send it to so I emailed the central "contact us" . I think they were so surprised at getting a compliment, we had a phonecall and an email telling me they had passed the compliment onto the store.

YANBU. You took the time to praise them, it would have been nice if you had got a thank you.

Surely expecting a response rather takes the shine off whatever nice things you said?

I complimented a teacher recently on the behaviour of his group of students. He was shocked. He expected me to be wanting a moan, but they were astonishingly well mannered and polite. Especially considering they had been travelling all night on a coach from Nottingham to Ypres.
