AIBU?

To think that one should put the cream on first?

On scones that is.
Because surely the cream creates a delicious fatty barrier, thus preventing the jam (raspberry of course) seeping into the sconey cakiness?

And we can do "scon" vs."scone" too, if anyone's up for it.

Only first if its clotted cream

All other creams go on top of the jam.

We've had this thread before.

It's jam first. You are wrong.

Jam then clotted cream on your scon.

Of course its clotted, honeydragon. What kind of scumbag do you take me for?

Jam first (unless clotted as mentioned purely because you can't spread the thick cream onto slippy jam).

Scon.

Cream then jam, but provided it's Cornish clotted cream I won't argue too much about the order.

The jam goes on your scon first

Because many will convince you that a stiffened double is acceptable, when this happens one has to make do Grin

Take a freshly baked scon, still warm from the oven.
Split by hand, never cut with a knife.
Spread with a lick of lightly salted butter, then smear with a dollop of raspberry jam (homemade for preference).
Top with a generous mound of clotted cream.

Eat.

Clotted cream first, then jam, on a scon.

FIL used to use clotted cream instead of butter on his bread.

"A stiffened double" sounds so rude

But yes, desperate times and all that

Hmm, cream first enthusiasts seem to be in a minority. How can this be?

Because people are very ignorant. Butter? And clotted cream? No.

Scon.

Cream first.

Then jam.

No butter.

Nice tea. In a pot. Smile

Isn't there some "thing" that in Devon it's cream first and in Cornwall it's jam (or the other way around)? Or is that just something for gullible tourists like me?

They should resemble a pair of breasts. If you don't have a clear view of two delicious raspberry nipples, it's simply not right.

Scon.

Clotted cream first.

Then strawberry jam!

No butter! Unless of course there's no clotted cream, in which case lots of butter. But then no jam (of any kind).

Also plain scones (vs fruit ones) for cream tea!

(disclaimer: if the cream isn't of the clotted variety Sad then it really should be jam first)

Scone - Clotted cream - Jam. In that order.

Yummy.
