AIBU?

I am either unfit for life, or nobody has as much to do as me....

I dont know which one it is, but I am beginning to suspect that I either have a hundred times MORE to do than everybody else, or that I am unfit/incapable of living modern life.

So far today:

*Get the kids up and off to school
*Sit down at my desk to start work (ha!)
*Deal with a plumbing issue at the house in London
*Deal with tenant who wants to move out and get another girl on the tenancy (manage by bloody incompetent F¨¨tons)
*Deal with insurance company about a damage my 5 year old did to a parked car
*Deal with the MD of the head of the franchise who build our house (franchise bankrupt), as their are issues to sort both regards to the kitchen, the bricklaying, and the groundworks which does not follow building regulations
*Deal with school inspector regards to sons bullying problems
*Look at quote for groundwork
*Arrange paving (still to do)
*Get back to person who quoted us for tarmac
*Eat Lunch. (STILL not able to start my actual work)

Does everybody else get so many issues thrown at them? If so, how do you manage to get any work done? How do structure your day to be able to deal with surprising "unknowns" that enter your day?

Because I have just had lunch, about to crack on with accounting, and yet again I feel that I have lost half a days work. In addition, I feel frustrated and overwhelmed.

Am I just unfit for modern life?

No Quint, you are not unfit for modern life. You are doing too much. I honestly don't know anyone who has as many spinning plates as you. And DH and I spin a lot.

Well you appear to won more than one property....so that takes work. And as someone who is not in that position I have no pity as I am jealous!

I would deal with the childrens issues first...and concentrate on them...they're more important than looking at quotes or paving....those can wait till' tomorrow.

I think you are doing to much. I have some days like that but not all.

I don't work as a human being, I need 14 hours sleep and to just waffle about in a dressing gown all day. But they won't let me :(

ah, and I find chocolate and coffee helps....

Owning more than one properties is more work, that is true, we must be mad to consider letting THIS house, and rent a flat in London and go and live there. Sad We wont have time to sell this house, before the new term in London. This is why it is so important to get the groundworks and the drainage sorted. We cant leave the house like this, due to possible damp damage. It is a timber house, so moist is "lethal".

Why have you sent your children to school today. It's a bank holiday. On days that aren't bank holidays I have to be at work, at my desk at 9am. The stuff you mention I have to fit in at lunchtime or at the end of the working day not during it. It sounds as though you have boundary issues rather than too much to do.

It seems to me that each day bring with them a NEW issue that has to be dealt with.

We still have painting to do. We have been working our arses off so far this spring, every sunny evening, painting the ground floor external brick work. (midnight sun helps). Now we have to continue with the timber structure balustrade that surrounds 3/4 of the house....

I am so tired, and so sleepless.

You need to look at the things involving your properties as what they actually are - work. And not feel that you are getting distracted from your work and not achieving anything - all of the things to do with your other property and the one you are having built are work too. You have 3 jobs (not all of them full time) and that is why you are feeling overwhelmed.

So you're not wrong to feel like that, you have a lot on. If you look at it all as work though you might be able to go a bit easier on yourself about feeling that it's a lot though IYSWIM.

I am in Norway, we dont have a bank holiday here. We have bank holidays on thursday and friday, but since those days are not a uk bank holiday, I will have to juggle kids and work. (Another reason why working for a uk company, abroad, is not great)

Yes, I could have boundary issues.

I'm gonna be one of those people they find welded to a chair in their front room, pissing into a cup.

I hope you don't mind me saying this Quint but you have a massive backstory most people on this thread don't know, including 2 elderly parents who make huge inroads on your time, and the list in your OP doesn't really even begin to cover what your life is like.

I have a problem with having a lot to do (and yes some of us also have other things in our lives we dont inform people of here). I am not dismissing the OP, she obviously has an enormous amount to do and feels overwhelmed :(. I am terrible for going into a panic when i have so much and then never getting to anything. I used to have lists that never were approached. Then I started just saying "this must be done NOW" to everything I have. Its the only way I can do things and yes, I always have a load more left, on my mind and to do. Its the only way for me.

get your letting agency to manage your property rather than doing it yourself if it's too much?

Report
TheSkiingGardener · 30/05/2011 12:06

You have far more going on than I can imagine dealing with. I would say Lists for everything and being realistic about what is achievable each day. That way hopefully you get a sense of fulfillment when that days tasks are done. Good luck

Georgiemama, you are right. I am not listing everything. I was just listing todays disruptions, not including things I have done which is actually work related, nor housework, nor issues relating to my parents..... Sad

We must be mad to think about letting this house too, in order to "simplify our things". We have taken on too much, through our inability to sever ties with one country (the uk), and should not do the same mistake again.

Firawla, they should be doing it. But they were refusing to do as I said regards the plumbing, and wanted to go ahead and get a plumber to unblock the toilet, but in my opinion this was not the problem, the problem was external, and they were refusing to get a drains service out. Angry So I had to step in. And they had asked the tenant to "prewarn" me about one of them moving out.

There seem to be new and different issues in our lives all the time.

Its difficult. i just managed to place my mentally ill and suicidal mother in residential care. That helps, although she is in another country to me and so I keep getting phone calls about her not allowing access to her home, suicide attempts, the house being filthy etc. I am trying to arrange home help and a cleaner. Im hoping this resi care helps. Would it be any use to you?

Quint, I could very nearly have written your post!Grin
I work outside the home four days a week in my regular job, see patients at home on a further two days, have four children and am expecting a fifth, another property as well as the one that we live in which at the moment is in the process of being let to new tenants. Also we had a leaking roof at Christmas and I am still dealing with the insurance people on this. I know that somewhere in my vocabulary is the word "No" but have difficulty using it!
