buying 5 and 3 a Nintendo DS each as birthday presents? That's not a present; it's a babysitter!

LilQueenie Fri 27-May-11 17:27:09

yabu why shouldnt they have a nintendo ds. Its a toy. Are they going to play with them constantly? Should they be allowed no tv?

twirlymum Fri 27-May-11 17:28:06

Er, get over yourself.

Shoesytwoesy Fri 27-May-11 17:28:24

I plan to buy my two a DS each for Christmas this year, they will be just turned 4 and 3. Can't see the problem really....elaborate?

BitOfFun Fri 27-May-11 17:28:45

I'm indebted to usualsuspect for this. I suspect it will get much use.

IprivateI Fri 27-May-11 17:30:35

How utterly dispicable. Really a 3 year old knows how to use a nintendo DS? I hate it when two siblings get the exact same toy each - it doesn't promote sharing or learning to get along. I hope they have fun with them. Guess everyone's parenting is different.

BobbaFettBountyHunter Fri 27-May-11 17:31:18

Pffft, everybody knows psp's are far superior.

Witchofthenorth Fri 27-May-11 17:31:30

Yeah whatever! I must have heaps of babysitters then, 2 ds's, wii, xbox and a playstation.........hmmmmmm pub calling! YABU

cjbartlett Fri 27-May-11 17:32:10

Lol

I got DD and DS age 7 and 5 a DSI each and a heap of games to get me through the long trip to the UK next week... what's wrong with an electronic babysitter? So far DDs favourite game is a brain teaser one so it is not a lot different to the homework internet games the teacher sets... They also seem really hardy as DS has dropped his down the stairs twice and the baby likes to bang it around...

I doubt you'd complain about nice,, quiet kids playing a DS in the airport, rather than running around screaming...

Hulababy Fri 27-May-11 17:33:21

Lol at being disgusted over this!

Dd had a ds at 5y. Definitely wasn't a babysitter for her. Electronic games are not evil and do not always lead to addicted children who do nothing else.

only a babysitter if irresponsible parents dont police the time spent on it.....are you able to do that op? or not?

BabyDubsEverywhere Fri 27-May-11 17:35:18

Poncey do you really think so....thats what DH says grin

TakeMeDrunkImHome Fri 27-May-11 17:35:20

if they can afford it why not?

ChristinedePizan Fri 27-May-11 17:35:59

God, how boring. I thought they'd been licking dogs' bums or something

GwendolineMaryLacey Fri 27-May-11 17:41:04

I'm disgusted too. The DS is shite.

somedayillbesaturdaynite Fri 27-May-11 17:41:58

Pmsl Poncey!! I bought my 3yo dd and 4yo ds 2nd hand ds's for xmas. they get put away when dc aren't allowed to play and it has encouraged my ds to actually put pen to paper (something he wouldn't do before). do you have nothing in your house that is forbidden for the dc to have in unlimited amounts? Eg, I have chocolate shock hidden for mummy o'clock in my kitchen but dc only get it when i say it's ok. Everything in moderation smile

BobbaFettBountyHunter Fri 27-May-11 17:48:08

I'm a bit of a console whore, ds, dsi, psp, wii, ps3 and sexbox. Of course most of these are mine...but if ANYONE plays COD inbox me your gamertag (xbox or ps3)

iPod touch would have been better. Brilliant educational games and lots of free ones or 59p. My son loves his. Was a hand me down though but would buy him one in an instant

saffy85 Fri 27-May-11 17:52:12

Wouldn't waste a DS on a kid that young. My hamfisted 3 year old would break it pretty quickly. But whatever steams your pudding. Doesn't affect you at all does it OP? They're buying them, not you.

IHeartKingThistle Fri 27-May-11 17:53:09

I wouldn't get them for mine that young and I'd be pissed off with DH if he did without discussing it with me. Clearly you and I are in the minority though! Still, like someday says, you can moderate how much they use them.

DontCallMePeanut Fri 27-May-11 17:53:22

just for you OP
