AIBU?

To get slightly irritable when my car is slagged off whilst giving a lift?

I offered to give my mum and sister a lift to the dentist today, it's in the neighbouring town so it's quite a drive and if I hadn't have taken them it would have took them around an hour and a half faffing on the bus and then a long walk.

So as soon as she gets in the car my sister said "Oh I hate these small cars". Before we'd even got out of their street she said the following:

"Look at the state of it in here, tissues all over!" (one small pack of tissues had fallen out of ds's school trousers as he left the car this morning).
"God it's so low down, I don't like low cars"
"Not much space in here is there?"
"i don't like Rovers to be honest"
"At least it doesn't stink like your old car, that's something I suppose".
"God I don't know how to can put up with that tree thing bobbing around on the mirror, that would do my head in"
"Is this car second hand? hmm you can tell".

I mean, ffs I was doing her a favour! She's 17 so really should no better.

AIBU for taking all this a little personally? She loves to rub it in that I don't have much money. We don't all get given thousands on a plate as soon as we're born . I know it sounds cruel but I'm kind of looking forward to the day when she joins us in the real world and learns that money doesn't fall into your hand as and when you need it when you're an adult.

I'd have slammed on the brakes hoping to give her whiplash and told her to get out and fucking walk. Cheeky bitch.

Pft. Ask her what she plans to dsrive when she passes her test. My little sis is exactly the same but a couple of years older. Drives me mad but have made it clear that I won't be dropping her off at her boyfriends if she can't respect my lovely Patrick ;) And I have great fun in poking fun at her for her ambitious plans to own a lovely car!

I think I would have made a comment about not being very keen on teenage posturing, myself! At 17, I somehow imagine she doesn't have a car or know the first thing about owning one.

I suppose it hit a bit of a raw nerve because I don't like the car much but it's all I can afford. I long to own a newer, nicer car but that is unrealistic for me at the moment. I the meantime I make do with what I have and do my best to make it nice with it's smelly tree new footmats etc.

She's got no idea about life in general. She was recently given £5000 by her grandparents (her dad is not my dad) and she BLEW it all on toys and gadgets. She's now been given another £7k and that is going the same way.

She's apparantly buying a brand new Honda Civic as soon as she's 18 and a three bedroomed house in the posh neighbouring village. Hmm ok dream on, love! (She's never had a driving lesson in her life btw)

And she's never had so much as a paper-round. It takes her all her time to make a full week at bloody college without making up some silly excuse for a day off such as "my leg is hurting".

YANBU and I'd make her walk too.

Saying that, I'm ex-technical side motor trade dealerships, a petrol-head but also a dumb blonde. On one particularly overworked day, having been in and out of all manner of Alfas and sports cars at work, I got into a new boyfriends' car to go out for dinner.

We got to Sloane Square, chatting happily. Then I got a look from him and a narrowing of eyes.

It was halfway down the Kings Road when it dawned on me that I'd just said how pedestrian I found German cars, how dull the Audi...

.... whilst sitting in his Audi Coupe.

PS Tony, if you're reading this, it may have taken 29 years but... sorry! :o

I know a couple of teenage girls like that. They have everything given to them when they were growing up. They even had a house bought for them when they were students. They knew all the labels to buy and the shops to go to. It changed a little when they had to work for a living.

I learnt a new word on MN today its Schadenfreude I think your hoping for a bit of it with your sister. If I am right I think you should have a rethink and let the lass get the cradle marks of her backside before you stand judge and jury on her.

Also jealousy is a curse not a blessing so don't give in to it, it is not her fault she has been showered with money.

I have a friend who did this. I gave him a second chance (and therefore a second life home) and his still said my car was dirty so I haven't bothered since. I know it's dirty,but it's a free lift, innit??!!!

In fact when a boyfriend criticised my driving I did just that.

Left him by the side of the A1-and I was driving his car

Ugh we have this with my sil her es left her and took the car so.we have put her on ours yet moans about it cos her car was better yeah ok it cost a bomb to buy eats fuel and can only use a certain petrol ours is a 1.8 mondeo it gets us from a to b cant get all of us in it but all we can afford at the mo hers was a honda 4l so yes does shift but crap for around town.
