Did an online shop on Tuesday night which came to £79.91 it was delivered on Wednesday. It actually came to £84.91 as some offers were cancelled.

Asda have put a ghost payment of £79.91 and taken an actually payment of £84.91.

So fucked off Bank say they can't do anything as the £79.91 was authorised online and been put on reserve, if not taken will be made available but could take up to 7 days!!!!!!!

ASDA's reckon nothing to do with them, they have had payment, I have had shopping!!!!!!!

Arrrggghhhh I am now skint until Tuesday!!!!!!!

It's one of the many reasons I don't shop on-line. Wink

So they are in effect going to take 2 payments?

I don't get it.

I'm a bit slow today.

*NB, blame the hayfever for any stupidity from me today, please...

This has happened to other people too, they have screwed so many people over woth ghost payments! Other supermarkets don't seem to do this so don't know why they do!

oh FFS not another ASDA thread. When will you all learn to shop elsewhere?

ASDA are crap and stinky. Wink allegedly.

I stopped using Asda and Tesco because of all the mistakes. Switched to Sainsburys and have had no problems whatsoever. If you have to shop online, like me, I recommend them but I suppose it depends on the store

Asda ringfenced 79.91 as the expected payment so it is not available to the OP in her account until the bank releases it. Asda then took a separate actual payment of 84.91 but the ring fenced amount has not yet been released. It will be but in the meantime the funds are not available to the OP.

No idea how you solve this one or whose fault it is but what a PITA.

This was on watchdog last night, apparently it is a bank thing as some banks release the ghost payment as soon as the real one is taken, but some banks hold it for upto 7 days, crazy!

Report
cheekeymonkey · 27/05/2011 11:33

When I use them it tells you before you check out that offers are not valid on your chosen day of delivery so that you have the option of either chosing something else or changing your delivery day? Hmm

Report
LadyOfTheCuntryManor · 27/05/2011 11:37

With Sainsbos and Tescos if you pop something into your basket that is on offer but will not be on offer on the date of delivery a little red flashy thing pops up to let you know it will be full price.

Rather nice of them.

this happened to me and I work for asda! I won't shop with them online ever again thats how much I love the place i work for Hmm

has any one had this happen with tescos, thinking of trying them instead

But regardless of offers that are ending, how often does the estimated cost match the actual cost - because of substitutes and things that need weighing/are not in stock.
Once the actual payment is taken the ringfenced money should be available immediately IMO.

Yes, there have threads on this before.

Not all supermarket online shopping services are as utterly shite as ASDA's appear to be.

Waitrose is lovely, of course.

This happened to me in Tesco, not ordering online but actually in store.

They said the card payment hadn't gone through and tried to put it through again - and said it also hadn't gone through. I went out side and checked the cash point and it clearly showed 2 payments of £50 (ish) had gone out of my bank account and now there were no funds left in the bank.

Took the print out back inside only to be told it was my banks fault, rang the bank only to be told it was Tescos problem. Repeated this process alot! Never got my shopping and never got my money back either Shock Kept being told it would be released in 7 days by the bank as they said Tesco had to release it first.

Its been well over 6 months now and I have given up chasing it as they (the bank) seem to deny it it ever happened and it doesn't show up on my bank statments even though I had my little print out. Bastards.

Oh dear....another one

Somebody may be able to link the epic threads on this that we have had. I don't have time to rehash it...suffice to say it has happened to me and many others with ASDA online and it can be resolved

You need to get them to fax the bank to tell them to release the ghost payment

They may tell you they can't do that but they can

You really need the links to the old threads! Hang on I'll see if I had a PM from the old OP so I can search for it

BTW Tesco don't do this - they take a ghost payment for £1 or £2 so if it goes tits up you don't even notice.

I use tesco all the time get sick and then do an asda now and again and there is always something wriong with it. No subs or freezer stuff defrosted.

When you place the order asda places an authorisation on your account using your card details. Then they put the actual transaction thru. Usually the auth will cancel itself. For this to happen both the auth and the transaction have to be for the same amount.
Therefore if the amount is different the transaction debits and the auto remains in place taking up the available credit.
As a card payment is guaranteed the bank cannot cancel it.
Asda could get it cancelled. But they would need to fax confirmation to your bank authorising them to do it.
The auth should drop off the system between 7-10 days.
Most other supermarket only put thru a token authorisation but asda don't

Tescos are fab like mentioned they take a ghost £2 payment but you have to do one shop first. You can go to the basket and type good date please in the notes and you get good dates. Subs are always fab. £10 joint instead of a £5 joint of beef.

I have got over £40 worth of clubcards points already this year to take off my xmas shop.
