Help required.

Have a rather horrible UTI and have just been sent home with anti-biotics from the hospital. The doctor said there was blood in my urine and they will send it away and let me know the results on Friday.

Why would there be blood??? Im 22weeks pregnant and all of a fluster!

I had a UTI when I was 28 weeks pregnant and there was blood in my urine too. Absolutely cacked myself when they told me that but there was nothing wrong with me other than the UTI. Did they do a scan/put you on a monitor when you were there?

quite common with a nasty uti.
Its when some of the bugs can be some what acidic and can cause some wearing away of the mucous lining in the waterworks.
It all geos back to normal when youve got the antibiotics into your system.
drink plenty to flush bugs out, oh and take good care of yourself x

They checked my BP and babys heartbeat and that seemed fine. Baby bump is wriggling away as usual. I think it was just the words blood and pregnancy that don't go together!

I also had claret wee last time I had a UTI! And it bloody hurt too. If it's any consolation, the antibiotics started working really quickly and I was much better within 24 hours. I think the infection must irritate and cause inflammation in the tissues, which then bleed when you urinate. I think it's normal.

Ah you're fine then. Wriggling bump = happy baby. Hope the antibiotics kick in soon. Relax and take care of yourself and drink lots of Cranberry juice Smile

Theres nearly always blood when you have a UTI. Not blood you can see but small traces due to the irritation of the lining of the bladder.

It's from the UTI, promise.

I've had this a few times from a UTI. Don't drink cranberry juice at the same time as taking antibiotics, as it can make them less effective. This is only applicable to bladder problems not to anything else needing antibiotics.

Disclaimer: I've got no medical training, but the gynaecologist I saw recently, who also specialises in bladder problems, told me this.

A wiggley baby, Means a happy baby!

Warm water and lemon worked best for me and a nice bath! (Got a horrible UTI when I was 26 weeks, also blood in my urine, scared me shyteless!)

Make sure you drink plenty of fluids. Think of your bladder as a pool. A stagnant pool may invite bacteria, but a pool always filling/unfilling won't.

Also when urine is dipsticked it nearly always shows blood if there is a UTI.

Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in soon. Take care.
