They are ugly things, no? Just been on a walk and noticed how many houses there are with them round here, often in every window. Why would you have them when there are so many nice fabrics around? Or am I missing something?

Hideous, hideous things.

why would anyone want their living room look like a doctors surgery?

I think they have them because they offer privacy but still can be open and let light in. The alternative is either net curtains (not for everyone) or venetian blind type things which are a lot of work to dust.
I don't have them myself but each to their own I say.

vile i agree

loads of homes near here have em - a lot are south facing

FabbyChic Fri 08-Apr-11 19:53:35

I think they look smart, if I could afford them I'd have them, but being in a rented house, don't think I bother.

headfairy Fri 08-Apr-11 19:54:20

urgh, they're horrible. Remind me too much of offices.

Mumcah Fri 08-Apr-11 19:55:34

Very popular in Scotland I believe. Yanbu.

they are all over the sodding street. looks like a whole street of solicitors' offices or summat. luckily we have a massive photinia red robin screening us from the street, so don't need window coverings for privacy.

or upside down plissee blinds (that would be my choice anyway if I buy a house)

Nasty nylony 80's throwbacks - bearing horrid memories of the blue static-y office carpet / swingy beige blind decor that seemed to be in just about every office back then.

And my mum has them. Bad combo.

washnomore Fri 08-Apr-11 20:01:09

I have them blush

In my defence they came with the house and as our house is right on the street it's either that or net curtains or stop wandering round with a bare arse. Anything else makes it way too dark - vertical blinds can be angled so there's light coming in and I can spy on the neighbours but people passing on the street can't see me.

But I agree they're ugly things.

I think net curtains are worse!

whiteflame Fri 08-Apr-11 20:04:29

YABU. Here (US), they aren't associated with offices at all, most offices have bare windows. Never given it a thought before... why do offices in the UK have them then? Are they cheap/easy to clean? If so, there's your answer grin

TheMonster Fri 08-Apr-11 20:06:30

We have them - the landlord put them in before we moved in. They are awful and I hate them. I would never have them by choice.
And no, they aren't easy to clean, and certainly aren't cheap to buy in the first place.

MaryAnnSingleton Fri 08-Apr-11 20:06:31

vile things- hate them

lazylula Fri 08-Apr-11 20:08:13

I have them and I like them!

FabbyChic Fri 08-Apr-11 20:09:24

They are easy to clean you can unclip them and they go in a washing machine, my mum always used to put her patio door ones in the washing machine.

They are not cheap either in fact more expensive than other blinds and certainly more expensive than nets/voiles.

Moulesfrites Fri 08-Apr-11 20:09:48

I wouldn't have thought they would be easy to clean....

whiteflame Fri 08-Apr-11 20:10:05

well there MUST be a reason they are so prevalent in offices...

TheMonster Fri 08-Apr-11 20:12:12

They can go in the washing machine? Really? I wouldn't have thought they'd stand up to that. Maybe ours are just crappy.

partyhats Fri 08-Apr-11 20:12:13

YANBU. Horrid.

borderslass Fri 08-Apr-11 20:14:58

YABU I'm getting them for my kitchen as the twat next door neighbour cannot walk by without staring into my house no-one else does it.

Moulesfrites Fri 08-Apr-11 20:18:56
